It is sad to see that English education in schools gets demoted under the current Chinese leadership if this trend carries on, we will see the English language proficiency among new generation in China will plummet Comment from : @izzyzhang6014 |

India will soon be the largest English speaking nation on the planet Even the poorest kids in Indian villages are being taught English language extensively I studied in a government school and we had English as our medium of instruction English was the language of Maths and Science and thankfully our Maths teacher was very fluent in it Though the English teacher who was supposed to make us fluent in the language sucked It's ironic that I learnt to speak English by immitating my Maths teacher and laughing at my English teacher in the school LoL Comment from : @AjayTiwari-en9nz |

"If you want to be successful, you have to learn English" I have to disagree with this There is no statistical evidence supporting this statement Comment from : @zhuohangzhou9370 |
The message conveyed is extremely bias statistically Only people who speak English get interviewed, which only tells one side of the story Comment from : @zhuohangzhou9370 |

As a Chinesei have to say nowadays that all of students in China must learn English once they start from entering middle school because English has added in Gaokao ,the most important exam for Chinese students, for many years so,it's very important for Chinese students to learn English wellbrbrhowever, a lot of Chinese students are confused about English grammar since the beginning of learning Englishbrbralso a lot of them have a serious problem of spoken English and English hearing like me just because of lacking English environment to learn English( you know that Chinese do not communicate with each other in English in their daily lifebrbrin sum,Even though a lot of students learn English in China there barely have students proficient in English ,in other words,English will never replace Mandarin in ChinabrbrbrAll in all, even though Comment from : @苏哲-w8s |

I think the English language is the most Flexible language in the world It can incorporate or export words into itself It is a combination of many foreign words Just go back a few hundred years, and a person would have a hard time understanding someone speaking English Comment from : @walleye364 |
uhm Your writing it, so does that mean you already have tongue STDs? Comment from : @walleye364 |
Ha Ha I'm not laughing at you just at the thinking People don't realize it but the Englsh Language is made up of different languages If you go back a few hundred years, you would have a hard time communicating with English speakers Many Chinese words will find it's way into the language, There are some already That's one thing about the English language is that it is very flexible Comment from : @walleye364 |

Practice makes perfect Attend Community College classes, watch Telemundo or Univision or any other Spanish channel you have(watch with subtitles so you can see the words and pick up the accent and keep a eye out for common phrases) Most important keep a good English-Spanish Dictionary with you Hope this helps! :) Comment from : @bluedragon219123 |

Wow! Chinese love the English language and culture so much, that maybe they will be willing to just trade it off completely in a few generations Comment from : @Quixotepr |
In the beginning of the video the lady talking in front of her classmates seemed to be able to use English words & phrases in the correct context but listening to her heavy Chinese accent some people may need to run the segment of the video over a few times to pick out what she is saying Like the English announcements you get at the Shanghai airport Even after hosting a world expo you'd expect the Chinese would start improving their accent Comment from : @shk00design |
There is a lot of fluent English speakers in China There are also common mistakes including using a similar word than the correct one in a sentence: "There is NO a lot of good schools" instead of "There is NOT a lot of good schools" And quite common subject-verb conjugation: "My father DON'T know instead of "My father DOESN'T know"
On the other hand, have a friend living in the US in N Carolina A state with few Chinese yet many White people there are learning Pinyin Comment from : @shk00design |
The English language is just an extremely useful tool Learning it does not mean cultural submission Besides, 75 of all English speakers in the world use English as a second or third language I doubt that they feel "subjugated" Furthermore, unlike most languages (the French language belongs to France; the Spanish language belongs to Spain), no one owns the English language Comment from : @chopgatoy |
I had years of French education in school, and got A's Today, I cannot speak a single word of French I can honestly read Chinese better than French, which is sad, because written Chinese is pretty much the most difficult script out there, and I've only ever studied it in my spare time Comment from : @Watermark0n |
"You think the English alphabet is difficult? "
He was giving an amusing anecdote of how he found difficulty with the English alphabet at the time I doubt he has difficulty with it anymore
"Think of Koreans"
Interestingly, Korean is actually totally unrelated to Chinese I believe at the time what the Korean were doing was literally learning and writing Chinese, rather than writing Korean with Chinese characters Comment from : @Watermark0n |
The idea that this idea is ridiculous is ridiculous The watering down of native cultures - cultural imperialism - is an inevitable byproduct of this process Americans cannot understand, because they're the dominant culture, the dominant never understand the plight of the subjected, they feel a constant privilege blindness Comment from : @Watermark0n |

Whos the teacher of the girl at the beginning? Shes speaking way too fast, at the end I think the whole "loss" of chinese fear is a bit much Comment from : @sureshreddy9067 |

What sort of Open University programme is this!? I'm watching it during daylight hours and I've not seen anybody with a beard in front of a blackboard! Comment from : @benthejrporter |
In a way, Chinese always have the mentality of the "Middle Kingdom" On the other hand, there is the reverse trend for foreigners to learn Chinese to communicate to the 1B people Like Singapore English becomes a tool for business
You think the English alphabet is difficult? Think of Koreans who decided to abandon Chinese characters because the young people found it too difficult to learn and does not represent the Korean language well And so they all switch to their alphabet (Hangeul) Comment from : @shk00design |
The learning of any language in addition to your mother tongue has an impact on the learner It's impossible not to change when you learn another language It's simply part of the process because, as Ms Yi'an Wu said, language and culture are inextricable Comment from : @imnotfromhere |
6:50 She has really clear intonation A bit of Chinese accent showing through but, you can tell she's focused on accent with the way she uses "th" and vowels Some people can spend 20 years with a language and not get this sort of thing down Comment from : @Edsploration |

It's a shame that language can be such a barrier preventing people from progressing, but their drive to learn the language and give their children a head start is really admirable Comment from : @LemonyBello |
We need to speak one international language
I don't care which one it'd be, i have no prejudices against languages
And since programming and scientific languages are de-facto english, it only makes sense to learn it
I cannot really understand reasons for rejecting a tool that would allow you to communicate with people of any other nationality Comment from : @SEThatered |
