Granted, we all should use good index funds to build wealth But, real estate also has given almost the same returns or more in many cases( example sites, farm land etc not flats) The important point is, this real estate is illiquid compared to stocks, but it is a blessing in disguise Liquidity has a cost Generally that is the difference between liquid and illiquid ones To have more clarity, please go through David swensen talks and yale investment approach

It's easier to get good long term return of 13-14℅ cagr in index funds but sometime the return could be low 4-5 yrs at a stretch in index funds So staying invested for long term is good After 10 yrs real growth will be visible Initial 4-5 yrs there might not be much growth visible
