So glad for the information you explained in this video! I'm happy you included American Sign Language! Parents of deaf children can help their children become bilingual, by signing with them and also helping them read a spoken language Comment from : @chriswixtrom6514 |

My mother tongue is Portuguese, but I started to study and learning Spanish when I was about 11/12 When I was 18 I started to learn English as well (but I had had contact with English since I was a little kid, just not in a regular way) Now I can speak these three languages and it's pretty useful, even though I live in a monolingual country (Brazil) When I have children, I want to raise them speaking at least English and Portuguese (but it would be nice if they achieve Spanish as well, because I find it important to be able to communicate with other Latinos) Comment from : @gabriellaamaria4986 |

My baby mama gave birth to my first son this past February She’s a black girl and my side of the family are Mexican She talks to him in English and we talk to him in Spanish Wonder if it’ll stick Comment from : @Noodlepony |

That was fantastic! I’m pregnant with my first baby and we’re Brazilian My husband and I were talking about raise her as a bilingual child So he’ll be talking only in Portuguese and I’ll be talking in English This is called OPOL, I guess However, I’m an English teacher and a sign language interpreter in Brazil I’ve heard that newborns can communicate with us using sign language So what’s is your opinion about that? My husband just speak PortuguesebrbrbrAnd about English I need to study a lot about it, to be consistent and also creative to do some activities with her And to learn baby vocabulary because I’ve been studying English since 2005 and I’ve never saw those kind of things in my entire life I hope that I can do my best for her 🤰🏻💖 Comment from : @PolianicesdaPolly |

I learned three languages as a kid with no problems wanting to learn more, linguistics should be given them tine we teach kids algebra Comment from : @us3rG |

I live in Brazil, my mom is still fertile, I'm an only child and I want a sibling If it just so happens that my mom gets pregnant and I get a sibling, I WILL be speaking mostly in english with them It would be an accomplishment if they could learn to speak both portuguese and english at a much earlier age than I did I only learned it when I was 10, and honestly it was the biggest accomplishment of my futile existence My mom probably won't give me a sibling, so I'll just teach my kiddos in the future Comment from : @ahran_b |

I'm friends with two biligual families A have a Scottish friend who lives in Spain with her English husband & their four kids In the house, they use English, but when they go out, they use Spanish The kids are now fluent in both, including their 2 yr old son The other family are at my Church The wife is English & the husband is German The wife speaks English to their toddler & baby & the hubby speaks German to them The toddler understands them perfectly & the almost 1 yr old is showing signs of understanding both This is great, as when their German grandparents come to visit, the toddler is fluent in German Comment from : @SuperMissblueeyes |

I'm German and I wanna marry a Chinese girl and have kids I wanted to raise my child bilingual or trilingual by her speaking Chinese and me using English and German but since equal exposure is required I should try Chinese and English first and probably teach German at a young age but when these speech patterns already developed (I can speak Chinese too but I think growing up with the two dominant languages of the world would be super beneficia) Comment from : @hansudowolfrahm4856 |

We are in an Arab country and my kids understand Arabic but they talk English because me and my wife are working and we preferred to put them with Phillipines family whose speak English and what brought me here is I don't know I feel we done a mistake in that So me and the mother decided that she talks with the kids in Arabic and I talk with them in English but still when thier mom talk to them in Arabic they reply in English and what I wanted is when I talk to them in English they reply in English and when we talk to them in Arabic they reply in Arabic I don't know if anyone has similar like my problem and give me an advice Comment from : @mohammedmmalrawhani4178 |

I was spoken to in 3 different languages as a baby and I started speaking a bit early, but my lil brother who had the same situation didn’t start talking until much later and so my parents worried that 3 languages were too much and were confusing him and delaying him so they started only speaking to him in 1 Now I’m trilingual while he’s mostly monolingual So maybe multiple languages delay some childrens speech and not others? I (native English speaker) learned Italian as a young adult, so I always wonder what benefits it gives my brain I have noticed that I'm able to multitask better now that I have to codeswitch between languages And I'm always happy to be able to read more books and have more media to enjoy in general I'm mainly curious to know if this will decrease my risk of dementia as I get older Comment from : @lindseycampbell7487 |

My parents spoke spanish and english when i was growing up They tell me I only spoke spanish before pre-k, but since i started school I changed to english They kept speaking spanish with me in the house I never spoke it back Only food names or such For some reason I was still able to understand spanish perfectly as if it were english and to today still can Turns out its something called receptive bilingualism I've been doing efforts to get my spanish speaking on par with my comprehension Comment from : @original7373 |

For someone who's bilingual (Spanish/English), it's surprising that people have the capacity to learn so much, but don't use their brains to reach full capacity! Learning new things/skills is an amazing experience! The more you learn, the better you understand the world around you! <3 Comment from : @chocolatesugar-lovage9678 |

My family is originally from India but we all were born in an Arab country, my first words was in an Indian language but I learnt Arabic at the same time, when I started going to school (which was in Arabic) I started to forget my Indian language, after some years I relised that I don't understand when my mother speakes that language, So I was bilingual temporarily (until I learnt English couple years ago) Comment from : @bassam_salim |

I'm trilingual, but I rarely use my third language, but when I do it's hard to turn to English or Chinese when speaking to the same person, when I speak to someone in Chinese I just can't speak to them in English, which makes it hard for those who I communicate in English, it's hard to work together What happened? Comment from : @harmonydew6486 |

Up to what age could someone learn a language perfectly? And I mean perfect native pronunciation, perfect grammar, and perfect fluidity, etc Because I grew up in Spain until I was 8 and moved to London For 4 years I was in an english school like a regular english kid but still spoke spanish at home and during the holidays At age 12, we moved back to Spain but kept in contact with english (mostly through youtube) I feel like I am 10000 fluent in both languages, is it possible despite not being born into biligualism directly?
