The Royal Australian Mint DOES NOT print our banknotes The Royal Australian Mint can not legally print banknotes They mint coins only brNote Printing Australia prints notes Comment from : @ChuckyMcNubbin72 |

Australian coins are also near-perfect, with only the over-sized 50c piece being annoying in the wallet In fact, the only better coin size series I've ever seen was the old, German Deutschmark coins, whose one flaw was that they didn't have a 20c piece Comment from : @starlitelemming6929 |
Great video! I enjoyed listening to 10 minutes of discussion of British pounds vs Australian dollars! ❤ Comment from : @YamamotoTV2021 |

Almost 250 years ago now, we Americans told the late Queen's great great great great grandfather what to do with himself And to avoid that kind of thing entirely, we don't put any living people on our money at all Comment from : @jwolfe01234 |
Totally agree! Comment from : @mikehibbett3301 |
It's hilarious that if you log plot the US bills in the same manner you get a perfect linear fit Comment from : @RipleySawzen |
This made me so happy that I'm American It would bother me so much if all of our bills were different lengths Comment from : @flightlesswizard |
American money is completely waterproof Comment from : @whalemage1134 |
The tearing up a picture of the queen and throwing it in the sea 😆 Comment from : @andrewbloom7694 |

Most people don't give a damn whether bigger value means a different sized note lol Comment from : @Lvlaple4Ever |
OMG, yet another ridiculous piece of Aussie jingoism, and in a Pommie accent to boot Wow, isn't Australia just the greatest country in the world ???!!! Comment from : @wertherquartett |
i wish USD did polymer notes, last so much longer than the cotton/linen cash we have here in the US Comment from : @DirkCannon |
i am biased for Australia but I find having all the notes be the same length is actually a lot more useful because they dont stick out the top of your wallet Comment from : @Stapler42 |

Why does your “world” exclude Europe and Asia? I’m confident other paper currencies have varying size Revisit? Comment from : @groopeep |
Non-English-speaking countries also have currencies Comment from : @Mansch007 |
Drawing two zeros onto the one is an insult as a 100! That is the masterpiece of our currency erm wait that's not saying a ton Comment from : @DigitalAndInnovation |
It all gets a bit tense in a UK shop/pub if someone tries spending a fifty pound note Although that is nothing compared to someone trying to spend any Scottish note In most of England! Comment from : @eggfooyoung24 |
One thing I really like about US currency all being the same size is that if I need to get a bunch of 20s or 100s, I always get a 1 too, and fold it on the outside and fold it so that it just looks like I have a bunch of small change and it’s not incentive to cause trouble Comment from : @L4rgo117 |
I admit they look good, but they are WORTHLESS 😭😂🤣 Comment from : @TheGamingCanadian |

This is the first time I think I actually prefer the way the US does something Comment from : @ethanandrews3076 |
Australia did not really invent polymer notes, as attempts had been made earlier by several researchers Australia was the first to successfully produce viable notes So it was more the technology they invented rather than the idea itself And each advancement just makes these notes more amazing Comment from : @Donizen1 |
Switched from mathematics to durability…left out security… screw that how about the countries that put scientists on their money! Newton on the pound… madame Currie on the zloty that’s a better determining factor!! Comment from : @ajm7375 |
Now the Uk Notes are now all on Polymer, need to update this vid! Comment from : @apfwilliams |
Well the US dollar and the British pound are worth more and now the UK has polymer banknotes Comment from : @heidihorler6963 |
Gotta mention that NZ currency does change in height, and length, and has different colours No idea about the thickness :P But I do like them better than the Australian ones (I'm not from NZ ^^)br*also waterproof Comment from : @EliasMheart |
Welps We got polymer notes too, bro Comment from : @monkeydonk3925 |
This is another video that shows we need a 'Log day' as well as a 'Pi day'! It would make a good Log day video brIt also explains why it's no good using an American purse for British money - now I see the US money would have all fitted in and the British notes stick out unless they are folded up more brGood joke about the £50 note - when I worked on a checkout I had to ask my supervisor if it was genuine as I didn't know what the real ones looked like also had to check some £10 notes which had gone blue because of going through the washing machine in some trousers pockets! One customer tried to use a fiver that had been torn and stuck together with sellotape I think it was still valid! Comment from : @yahccs1 |
Well well The Aussies 'boxed clever' to get a better R value straight line Comment from : @deepindercheema4917 |
What about EUR? Comment from : @goswinvonbrederlow6602 |
why is the $100 at 9:19 not green? also it'd be cool to see an updated video with the new Australian notes to see if they follow the same pattern Comment from : @zacharybower7435 |
So I get all of that now how do you USE them? Lol 😆 I'm from the US and want to learn so I can visit someday!!! So this log scale why is this important? That would drive me nuts to have a mess of sizes in my wallet or pocket I would think even more would fall out and get lost? Idk haha Comment from : @melindagibson8606 |
When you take spelling errors on bank notes into account, suddenly things don't look so good for Australia Comment from : @notsecure6855 |
Did Matt just commit forgery on camera? Comment from : @jkwheeler4899 |

US bills are water-resistant You can run your bills through the wash and they'll be fine You can even iron them after and they crisp right up! Comment from : @chriswest1996 |
And now just last year the £ has joined Australia, Romania, Aotearoa, Canada ,Vietnam among others in the "Waterproof Bills Club" with the introduction of new polymer notes last year Come on $, € and ¥ Catch up!br brPersonally i hope iceland upgrades their cash, brour notes are so fragile they shrivel up in the cold, bri repeat i͟n͟ i͟c͟e͟l͟a͟n͟d͟ its as usefull as a willy in the winter Comment from : @plokkfiskur9094 |
US dollars might not be colourful or different in length but they are a lot more comfortable to handle than pounds pounds are a disaster, you always lose 5s and 10s in 50s, 50s stick out of wallets unless its a wide one I get the usefulness of changing the colour of banknotes but the size is meh Comment from : @Elia1988seoul |
Money 💰 Makes The 🌎 Go Round! Comment from : @fellorizvanovic5600 |
Also, the Australian Mint has now introduced updated designs making them even harder to counterfeit, but also include bumps on the corners for the visually impaired meaning you can denote what value the note is without needing to see it (5s have 1 bump, 10s have 2 and so on) Comment from : @Jonesy1701 |
I, as a Canadian, would like to submit a reevaluation with the added qualifier of the little window in the Canadian bills I think this puts them far above the rest Comment from : @hannahwatermelon |
another thing they added a few years ago was physical indicators so that you can tell the value of a note without needing to see it, useful for blind people Comment from : @a_shrxydud |
Having the bills be all the same size makes it a lot more convenient imo Comment from : @aaronspeedy7780 |
So Brazilian currency is analogus to pounds and it even have the $100, and of course, the $200, that is the size of a $20, just to destroy the log scale Comment from : @renanmaas3502 |
2:29-2:34 You get a Parker fifty! Comment from : @Anonymous-df8it |
As UK bank notes are now made of plastic polymer, while still maintaining the length and width increase, by the Parker standard for bank notes, they are now at least as good (or better than) the Australian notes :) Comment from : @abigailcooling9355 |
So, euros dont exixst apparently They are log scaled, waterproof and go up to 500, also they arrange in different colors Comment from : @DiegoideGetsNoBitches |

A bit late to the party, but regrettably you've missed the best currency Costa Rica has perfectly logarithmic notes from 1k to 50k, a much larger range than UK or Australia, they are fairly waterproof, and most importantly, each denomination features a beautiful scene from the rainforest or ocean Comment from : @CasaVoid |
I find it funny how we had a typo on the "new" 50$ note not long ago Comment from : @MrMoon-hy6pn |

To be fair, if you plotted the volume of a US bill against the log2 of its value, it would have an R^2 of 1 exactly Comment from : @bigpopakap |

"[Australian bank notes] are based()" - Matt Parker, 2016 Comment from : @agushernandezquiroga9064 |

Money that changes size with value seems cumbersome, especially to attempt to fit it neatly into a wallet Comment from : @sybiliminalSyntax |
Based!!! Comment from : @TheA_Gamer554 |

I'm sorry but Polish banknotes beat all of thesebrThey go linearly in both dimensions, but also come in six distinct denominations: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500br(so the log fit is better)brbrAnd most importantly they look quite neat – with uniform layouts, and in toned down, yet unique colours Each featuring one of the kings on one side and their insignia on the other Comment from : @mskiptr |
how about euros? Comment from : @p0gr |

bgrumpy eyebrows/b Comment from : @thedangernoodle2731 |

While I recognize that this isn't a history of US currency, I will say the differences between the $1, $10, and $100 go further than just the 0s at the end Comment from : @FokkeWulfe |
It's funny the meme Americans have about Monopoly money because of the various coloured inks other countries use Monopoly money is actually pretty monochromatic, like the US money (I know they also use green in addition to the black ink, but it's not very noticeable) To me, US money has always looked like Monopoly money since it's obvious that monopoly money has a single shade of colour paper per denomination, and a single colour of ink throughout Other currencies have many different colours per bill, and distinctly do not look as much like Monopoly money, which was indeed patterned after US currency Comment from : @theguyfromsaturn |
They're like Mexican Peso bills Comment from : @Mingura666 |
