Your bias is thick Why would you say the PhD is worthless piece of paper? Comment from : @theantracist |

For the people who are thinking about getting their phds online, I wouldn't be afraid to do so because the future is constantly changing and the newer generations will eventually take over the workforce ( millennials and generation Z) Getting a bachelor's or Master's online isnt a bad thingsoon neither will PHD Comment from : @spr6986 |
Doing one because I'm stuck in Podunk, but sure wish my classmates had been screened better Comment from : @dhlong1697 |

Great video as usual, think about what COVID did to not only education but to work force in generalbrThere’s a massive shift to remote/ online operations and education had already laid the foundation to online teaching years agobrI do agree 100 that some specialists can’t work fully online, but most of IT and computer science can and will be obtained remotely and I believe it’s even harder as you’re alone in this process and not commingling with your cohort to further advance your ideas, just my 2cbrThank you for your insight brYour videos helped me pull the trigger to go for my PhD at 45 years old😅 Comment from : @dukea4580 |

Apart from doing PhD online, I had experienced online thesis writing during the pandemic I was studying in Sweden but I had to come back to Turkey It was a painful experience, as you have mention it is so hard to reach your advisor and it is not as same as you are at the faculty I hate and hate doing it from a distance I will NEVER NEVER apply and recommend for a phD online Master thesis process was difficult and I cant imagine the PhD version of this According to me, doing a PhD online is like I want to have a distance relationship with my girlfriend You must be at the library, university and connect with your advisor all the time Comment from : @showmoon |
I'm a senior police officer who is reading a PhD online in criminology and criminal justice I enjoy the flexibility of working and researching at the same time as it gives me the opportunity to apply on the field experience in my studies The application of Personal experience and observation has been highly beneficial to my research topic as I have been able to source vital information and figure out new ideas Comment from : @imfsamura_49 |
I just got admission to Walden university I am still not sure if it is the right university for me in terms of accreditation I work full-time as an educator and looking to get my PhD in education as well Comment from : @deenahussain8808 |

I love your content Online degrees are better for non-traditional students, for sure I just finished a Master's degree in person, and the stress of rushing back home on time was not worth it when we had the online option The traditional students were actually less motivated Dealing with professors with no real-world experience and their TAs added nothing more than the class content The only thing I will miss is peer interaction, but it's not the end of the world if you have like-minded co- workers I prefer online and show my face during the research and dissertation phase Do what works for you, and make sure the school is legit Comment from : @uxdesigner2040 |

There are a lot of good hybrid programs Comment from : @busupshot83 |

Hello all i am thinking of applying for an online phd in philosophy I come from Greece and European universities are my priority However, I cannot find any easily, and when I find any they are too expensive Can anyone suggest me countries or universities that worths sending an email to ask? Comment from : @dionysisdeligiannis728 |

For many students with a disability distance learning is the only way they can achieve a degree or doctorate I don't agree that all online PhDs are from unknown universities, for example, Birmingham University offers a fair of its degrees via distance learning Comment from : @fatfrank69 |
I've watched quite a few of your videos, but this is the first time I've had to press the dislike button Comment from : @The_Original_Hybrid |
I'm currently doing my PhD online (working on my comp exam) The stuff you said is pretty spot on, but online is what I got Hopefully it'll mean something in the end Comment from : @jahipalmer8782 |
I think everything depends on your research If you're object of study is "people" you clearly need to be working with people instead of just "reading and theorizing" about them in an isolated setting Definitely social sciences, humanities, and education could consider online In the US distances to good universities are vast and cost of attendance increases with having to pay rent etc Comment from : @evelyngualdron5869 |
I know several people who received their PhD online with high ranking careers I think in person education is nice for those who have the availability to attend classes in person but the online model is perfect for the “none traditional students” Comment from : @victoriab185 |
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and I really don’t know what to do I love academia but I hate the system and the bullshit that comes with it Comment from : @sniper9961 |

wonderful thanks a lot Comment from : @kennethbaptiste |

I have seen more and more PhDs/DrPH offer either a hybrid model or 100 remote/distance learning for the field of public health in the United States I don't see the issue with distance learning especially for classes as I don't feel there is a difference between me sitting in a classroom or me watching a live lecture via Zoom from the comfort of my own home The technology is there to have conversations with the professors (perhaps we also need to improve how students communicate with their professor such as a Reddit/Slack type of discussion) I also strongly feel that the current structure of PhD is dying out and the system needs to be reformed and be more pragmatic about the process eg, not everyone will become a professor/have a career in academia after obtaining a PhD My hope is that certain fields such as public health are reformed in way that allows people to work (I think more people will also be attracted to that prospect and want to obtain a degree in that field) but also work towards getting a PhD even if it means going to seminars, conducting research remotely (perhaps work on data that has already been collected), etc Comment from : @jonf568 |

You are my favorite YouTuber — scholar !! Comment from : @demhai4560 |

I did my DBA online & distance Loving all the waytime saving, very systematic and structure The development of the entire process of learning is immersed values I still can network with my peers & support each other to complete each milestones Comment from : @dankschang |
Why do you need a university to do a PhD What does it do? brJust wondering if an online PhD is possible could you do it without an institution? Comment from : @DannyHatcherTech |
Im doing my PhD partially online (figured out an agreement with the University in England) but I dont see why anyone needs to know its been done online Im not going to list this on my resume and it wont be noted on my PhD Main thing to look out for is degree mills like Andy mentioned such as Adler which is pay to play lol Comment from : @zakedmonds4354 |
Hi Andy I was caring for COVID patients and doing an online PhD allows me to continue clinical work and still do a PhD I have managed to find some new mechanisms of disease I believe for me, the main target is to get the papers published I am though further along the career ladder Comment from : @asrarrashid1193 |
I'm ABD ch's 2-3 of my dissertation but it's very difficult for people who are not inherently "self starters," or motivated beyond normality or already know so much about a field otherwise it's not recommended😆©️ Comment from : @reachingforthesun |
As a theoretical physics PhD student: I was advisor-hopping until the end of 2019, when I ended up with my current advisor When COVID hit, I went full remote (from a different state), and stayed there for about 17 months Didn't feel like that impacted the quality of my work whatsoever - having all communication with my advisor be online was finebrbrNow I'm back to in-person, but I'm noticing it's actually easier to collaborate on some things, like document-writing on Overleaf or debugging code, online rather than in-person, I think (since each person can scroll through separately on their own machine) Comment from : @Stirdix |
Wow4:37 to 5:07 was am eye-opener I thought stipends were a bonusso I have been looking for fellowship PhD programmes that compensate for working while being enrolled Thanks for these nuggets of information!! Comment from : @primlawilliamson-munroe7072 |
Hi Andy, thanks for your work! I did my PhD remotely I think my topic (History of Mathematics) is well suited in certain cases for that However, I did have to travel periodically to my supervisor's city The experience was nice, although I would bring out one drawback: you are not embedded in the academic environment, something that is really key Greetings! Comment from : @Eduardo-xi1cq |
@Dr Andy mind making a video on what advice youd give to students with disabilities? Kinda hyper specific but could help alot of us prepare Comment from : @HeritageCast |

I'm going into my third year of my PhD, because I started during the pandemic all my coursework and meetings were online for the first two years I wonder if the pandemic will change people's attitude towards online learning? Comment from : @1234scann |

Once again, this was a very enlightening and helpful video about all the intricacies of what makes a PhD worthwhile I appreciate your content, Andy It has helped me in my journey to finding the right PhD for me I am so excited to have been one of the 25 applicants shortlisted for the PhD position I applied for! That is out of 243 applicants so I find that an accomplishment in and of itself! Can I please request the contents of a future video? Can you please highlight the best ways to discuss the strengths and limitations of the methods chosen for a PhD project? That would be extremely helpful I am an avid fan of your content and have yet to hear you discuss describing the limitations of PhD project and studies I would appreciate it! Thanks again Comment from : @monalisamalone6904 |
Would love your insight on transitioning into a full time industry position while wrapping up part time your dissertation Comment from : @javierhuizar4207 |
It depends on the field and the research method My friend has been doing his phd entirely online and completely fine with it His field is economics and he uses secondary data He has all meetings with supervisors online and collects data from online databases He basically doesn't even need to go to the uni at all 😄 Comment from : @sammienguyen3758 |
I started my PhD mid pandemic and as my office is located at a hopsital (and my data comes from an pre-existing cohort) I had to do the biggest part of the start of my PhD online from home It was indeed so lonely, especially when starting out! I had zero contact with other PhD students and was only meeting with my supervisors Stuck at home day in day out, with a lot of insecurities and imposter syndrome issues, it was so draining and took a big toll of my mental health Now I can go the my office and I will soon start out with labwork, but I really do not recommend being stuck at home all alone indeed Lowest point in my life :( Comment from : @JokeTemmerman96 |
I was accepted , conditionally, with Glasgow Uni for the EdD, now applying to Reading to do a PhD in Education Glasgow was 6-7 years, Reading in 3-4 Fee wise Reading was hands down more affordable to me Living and working in China during the pandemic restrictions puts Glasgow out of touch as they require 2 residential each year… enjoy the channel very much, and gives me motivation to get the PhD done! Comment from : @clivekingshott4323 |
I'm doing all of my PhD remotely Saving a lot of time on commute and the flexible schedule allows me to be far more efficient Comment from : @AkisTheBlessed |
The topic I am looking to do requires visits to sites that are geographically very spread out across SE Asia even though I live in the UK) Analysis of results can be done purely through my laptop (social science not science science)brI also have a family so have to do it part time and remotelybrThere are some real universities in the UK which allow PhDs to be studied remotelybrI'm not looking to get into academia and so online v university is less of an issuebrAny further advice because I feel like you are saying that I shouldn't do a PhD? Comment from : @tonysegadelli9421 |
Hey Andy, I can say I have been binge watching your videos these days They are so intriguing and encourage us to move forward Thanks a jillion! Comment from : @thedantmtour-beststreetfoo4081 |

Hi Andy, brI always look forward to your content and have been a follower prior to you reaching 100 subs I appreciate this topic I actually did complete a PhD in education while working full-time in the field and supporting a family My Ph D program was 100 online and earned from a university that is regionally accredited by the WSCUC The WSCUC accredits many prestigious and well-known institutions of higher learning in the US I think you nailed it when you emphasized the importance of accreditation from legit commissions These agencies do not alter criteria or standards of approval I am not equating my Alma Mater to all these "high-end" institutions, but I can say, the scrutiny of the accreditation process gives me confidence in knowing my PhD does hold merit Online programs are becoming the way of the future for many professionals (at least in the field of education) Even many highly recognized B/M universities that once granted strictly traditional on-site PhDs are now offering 100 online programs One need only do a Google search to locate such a school I worked extremely hard for my Ph D, and I'm proud of my dissertation research Thank you for bringing attention to the importance of accreditation Btw-- some 100 online universities offer internships, substantial scholarships, and tuition reductions for many of their students I was one who was given the latter two financial benefits Cheers! Comment from : @Kat-xm3yx |

An online PhD is definitely not an option for science and engineering majors In such fields, one needs to be physically present in the lab to do actual work Comment from : @1eriklara |
