My company targets high school graduates coming out of trade oriented high schools in North Carolina We have a 60 retention rate at the company over a 4 year period One of the reasons is we got rid of the old school toxic foreman that would throw pliers at you or belittle you for making a mistake Another reason is we pay you to attend electrician training once a year in a company training center Comment from : @matthewjohnson2488 |

To all the electricians in the chat is 60k really what you’re looking at making when you start? I’m in property maintenance and I work under my bosses elect license if there’s ever any issues with the houses we maintain And I make around 65k no electricity license, or schooling? Not sure if I wanna start with plumbing or electrical? I’ve been doing both for around 2 years so I have most of the hours for basic I think brI’d like to imagine if I tried to specialize I’d be making more after 😂😅 Comment from : @MarkosCaladros |
I’ve been in a licensed Electrician for 25 years And I can tell you holding that license and that skill has open the doors for a lot of other industries Construction management, instrumentation, automation, robotics and CNC machinery Networking and technical yes, it’s a good trade If you’re smart enough to use it as a sstepping stone to get further Comment from : @shawneliason790 |

Started in 1983 in an apprenticeship program Have worked everything from residential to heavy industrial into security controls over the past 42 years 2 big highlights in by career has been working on a new Hydro power house build and a shut down on a nuclear plant Currently working in security controls system installation, repair and maintenance in the correctional industry Have had a shear enjoyment in this field I do understand the satisfaction of turning on the power and watching it all come alive as I always say One thing i tell new younger people in this field is I’m here to help teach you to replace me so the trade lives on That’s was a saying my 65 year old journeyman would tell me as a 1st year apprentice Comment from : @stevenm6592 |
Hardest part of it now is the lack of benefits from even decent employers Comment from : @GeraldLandrumJr |

Trades were good when I was young and are ok now BUT remember you only have about 30-35 years of work in your body Plan accordingly if you do you will be fine if not at 55 you will be in trouble Comment from : @MDAdams72668 |
I am a rodbuster here I should have went to be an electrician first Job security is way better I have talked to a few electricians that have only worked on 4-5 jobs in their career I have built 50 plus story buildings to be on 20-25 projects later and see an electrician from the 50 story say he just got off that job Not saying electricians have it made but out of most of the jobs I see I tell people wanting to get into the trades to be an electrician After 11 years now I have a blown out back and hip needs surgery I wish I would have never went down the rodbuster/ironworker route One thing I always say to people looking into the trades is look at the guys retiring If they can walk up stairs, get in and out of their car without moaning try to get into their trade lol Comment from : @Jerebediah-x3l |

The reason I did not apprentice yet, I am already way past a journeyman's level in high voltage, controls, ultra complex controls, and specialty wiring They still want to waste 4 years of my already spent time so why bother? Stream line this crap for people who have already gained the knowledgebrI much prefer automation over wiring houses or commercial structures Comment from : @mythril4 |
