This is so creepy This is why people don’t want to work for companies interested in micromanaging I get that companies and execs have every right, if employees grant that to them by accepting employment there, to monitor and check up on their investment in labor to measure whether or not it’s worth the value they pay, but it just seems like such a meticulously laborious way for a manager to play CYA by building a case against all employees just in case they might do something wrong, before they even do anything wrong It seems like a way to punish people just for getting a job there by removing their right to personal autonomy or privacy I’ve been having and raising children for the last decade as these systems have become popular Now that I am preparing to return to work, reports like this make me want to run to alternate opportunities, like starting or purchasing a business, or writing a book, or selling my hobby: nature photography We need the income, and luckily there are plenty of traditional places I can work locally to stabilize that that don’t use this type of tracking software against employees, but I’ll be grateful when my alternative forms of income begin profiting enough to leave this new world of work behind for good Because it’s terrifyingly Big Brother I feel for anyone working for a company that does this For real Comment from : @brightpage1020 |

As an engineer who spends a lot of time away from desk and uses a lot of 3rd party apps that 999 of people wouldn't use, apps that very often trigger IT security warnings, all this stuff worries me greatly, I get the Viva insights thing which literally thinks I do nothing at allbrPeople sitting at a desk, punching numbers into spreadsheets (instead of importing millions of cells of data from multiple mdb, SQL and postgresql databases automatically like I do), could look at my usage statistics and incorrectly determine that I don't do any work at allbr Comment from : @Strider9655 |

Actually, I know a manager who might use this if she knows she can - she often jokes about how nosy she is about work and employees etc Because she is quite senior everyone laughs about it but I particularly find it off putting and annoying The feature seems quite useful but should be down to the individual employee or the system permissions they allow I just think that managers should focus more on outputs than on micromanagement - the latter often always lead to high staff turn over and on top of that a toxic work environment I think some managers forget that they were once in the shoes of the employees they manage Comment from : @joanharmonize |
