for 100 years there was no inflation in America the silver dollar $1 and the 20 dollar gold piece was $20 because there was not much paper money or called folding money and the coin was the insurance in itself it did fluctuate a few percent on the bullion There was paper money part of that time but the bullion stabilized the paper money there was also paper money redeamable in silver or goldThe US Mint in SF you could walk up the back steps and get silver in a bag kind of drops of silver into water as a exchange

My wife had a decent haircut a few days ago for 500 YEN Believe it or not She actually felt guilty getting so much value for so little money The exchange rate is back up to 143 again and so this was about $350 Incredible !!!! Now I feel rich when visiting Japan Crazy good food and great service for so little

Come to visit Malaysia and you will be surprised how great Japanese Food is like in Kuala Lumpur plus a lot more food of different countries and Malaysia at very very affordable ( cheap as compared to in Japan )brbrHotels are great too

But it cost like 8k usd just to get there and hotel for 2 ppl 3000 on economy plane and 2000 on mid level hotel After that another 5k to eat and go shopping for 2 weeks, yeah it'll be cheaper w conversion, but that's after the 8k already

While average income families are struggling with this inflation, Japan’s stock market has been rising and number of rich is increasing I live in the US and the same thing happens here too In both countries, the gap between rich and poor is growing brMy father lives on pension back in Japan and he complains that everything is getting more and more expensive especially utility bills, but at the same time he earned good amount of money out of his stock investments brI see why many more Japanese people especially young ones are now interested in investment Even Japanese Government encourages their people to invest by offering various programs and it’s one of the major reasons that pushed up stock prices I’m worried about what would happen if the stock prices dropped rapidly just like when the “bubble” bursted back in early 90s

In 1985, a dollar was worth 240 yen, but Japan was taking over the world Japanese products were relatively inexpensive, super high quality, and they were the toughest competitors in the world It will be interesting to see if they can get back their mojo China seems to be tanking right now, so there's an opportunity for Asian competitors like Japan and Korea

From my point of view (using MYR) the Yen went up suddenly about 20 in early 2020 (right when I was planning to go the Japan, which got scuttled due to the pandemic) It's come down to slightly below what it was in late 2019, so I will be buying some yen Haven't checked prices of APA hotels recently though I wonder if 90,000 yen would be enough for train fares, food, souvenirs (mainly Daiso and grocery store items 😁 ), a SIM card, for about a week and a half I'd pay for hotels ahead of time Do people bring lots of cash these days? Possible ETA - April, 2024 (in time for the nama shirasu at Enoshima) I hope airline fares will come down by that time
