Always enjoy your thoughtful commentary You help keep me motivated through Romanian

@philipphortnagl2486
100 agree with that textbooks mostly have to much content on specific celebrations and too less of living culture (which is for sure better transmitted to the learner on a podcast/video media)
Comment from : @philipphortnagl2486

@jr_8292
This is a great topic, and I particularly like the word "weightlessness" to describe it brI'd be interested to know what you and other viewers think about this point: when you learn a language, do you prefer to look for content in that language which is 'accessible' to your own culture (for example, a Westerner looking for Western-style pop music in, say, Chinese), or would you go further and 'put yourself out there' and consume material that might at first seem inaccessible or just too foreign to fully appreciate (for example Chinese 相声 comedy), in the hope that you'll absorb more of the culture and therefore eventually become more integrated?
Comment from : @jr_8292

@spacedew
One of your videos I liked best Wholly agree with all of your points, and that parable with the butterfly is a beautiful way of describing itbrSowwy fow bad inglish
Comment from : @spacedew

@JordYaku
Fantastic video Steve, really insightful I think it's natural to be learning a new language and think to yourself "Wow, the way they go about saying 'this' is pretty silly" We are sceptical by nature But brushing off that criticism and embracing it can do a world of good I often find that it's not always foreign language speakers with the largest vocabulary or who are grammatically correct the most fluent But those who embrace the culture of a language and know how to relate to native speakers
Comment from : @JordYaku

@alexpianoplayer15
Which one is your best known language? (except english of course which you know throughout and perfect)
Comment from : @alexpianoplayer15

@arakitamamoo
About ten years ago I read Steve's book when I struggled to learn English,and now I am listening to him talking aboutbrthe philosophy of  Chuang Tzu (莊子) and my mother tongue is Chinese it's hard to describe the feeling

@gabrielvieira9832
What makes you choose a new language to learn?
Comment from : @gabrielvieira9832

@nendoakuma7451
I get annoyed when beginning level textbooks waste precious space talking about advanced cultural topics like opera that aren't really necessary to interact with people They should have a separate book to discuss stuff like that I think a lot of language teachers happen to like that stuff so that's why they teach it I'd prefer to learn about higher culture in the language I'm studying
Comment from : @nendoakuma7451
