Very cool video! i also want to add that if you teach minors, when someone pays for them you need a relationship wit sponsor and student both I think that customer experience is important here too For me helps have a contract+tutoring summary report each month - i take mine from etsy, from cortadowitch shop Comment from : alexander nicolas |
|
Hi Im Sandy from Indiamy self limiting beliefs regards to pricing are these parents who weigh yr potential onli if yr a teacher working in a school thy doubt a teachers standard without acknowledging his or her worth and expertise n Indian parents love it when u give loads of homework thy feel that makes a great coaching classbargaining is in their blood😅n im shocked when giving a good foundation with a reputed tutor is compromised with bargaining 😂they shud learn by now that education is an investment for the future ❤ Comment from : Ambika Almeida |

i think trial sessions only make sense when you sign long term contracts, as is lowers the entering barrier, but when you're booked solid anyway, you have no need to do it Comment from : Rafael Belor |

I have tutored math and science for many years and I think a tutoring business is not easy to establish full-time Unless you live somewhere where people have money and willing to pay and there is plenty of demand Where I live there are too many tutors and parents are just not willing to pay anything more than $25 an hour I'd like to learn more about marketing a tutoring business Comment from : Maloose Orange |

I really appreciate this video because I went through this when I was a private tutor in China At the time, I moved my day job from teaching in public/private schools to teaching at a prestigious university in Beijing I felt embarrassed to raise my price but eventually I recalled how many Harvard graduates successfully marketed themselves because they graduated from Harvard I solved the problem by changing the way that I charged to a subscription Students paid a fixed cost for a certain number of classes in a month I allowed for them to miss 1-2 classes but didn’t refund their money if they missed This meant they were responsible for making sure they were in class because they paid for it regardless Some of the perks that I was able to give them was bonus classes and group outings where I invited all of my students to go network/engage in fun activities at a park My tutoring income quickly outpaced my day job I was able to start turning down students who didn’t have the mindset that would allow me to help them improve I would strongly suggest that tutors make a subscription package and not charge based upon the hourly rate Comment from : Nicholas French |

Hey! Lisa! Thank you very much for this information Do you have any videos about strategies to get more students? For example a webinar, or a free class, etc I am a little bit lost on this At the moment I am offering a free class to get more students, but I don´t know if a webinar would be better I´d really appreciate your help Comment from : Josue Medina |

I have been a teacher for over 25 years with over 5 years as the Reading Specialist in a private school I do summer and after school tutoring with kids who need the extra help with reading I am not sure that I could ever make it into a full time business unless I work everyday from 3:30pm to like 7:00 pm and that doesn’t sound fun, or like enough time to make good money Comment from : Teach 75 |

How do you promote your tutoring business in coffee shops ? they don't have listings at Peets Do you randomly approach students sitting ? any more tips on free local ways to find students (university students) ? my college does not have a ton of math classes ( what I tutor ) Comment from : French Mike |

I am a high school math teacher and have done 1-1 private tutoring for the last 7 years but I don't have enough hours in the day any more (outside of teaching fulltime) to offer enough tutoring to make a significant amount Moving to the next step of formalizing a business, hiring tutors and scaling has felt out of my reach (my limiting belief) Comment from : Zyler |
|
Do you need a teaching certificate for tutoring? Comment from : Emily Sanders |
|
I plan to start a tutoring service in my community but I fear to price too high because i don’t live in a rich or middle class area I completely understand your points but, should i charge $15-25 a session knowing the community i live in? As a college student, that is majoring in mechanical engineering, i hesitate on my credentials… honestly i don’t feel qualified to start a tutoring business Comment from : Lucia C |
|
Thanks, Lisa for sharing You are amazing! I'm considering tutoring as a side hustle (while currently, I'm doing tutoring for my son because I cannot found one in our area) Your insights will really be helpful while I'm preparing for this new venture Comment from : Ivy Hernandez |

Lisa I love your shirt! I agree with a lot of what you said I started a local tutoring company in Upstate NY and I am working on scaling it right now If you could make a video on how to scale a tutoring biz, that would be great 😊 Comment from : Strategic Test Prep |

Love this video, Lisa! Would love to hear more about how you approached finding a ‘first session structure’ that suited you and your business I have found with my first few students recently I felt a bit of pressure to jump straight into maths topics (I’m maths tutoring) because they are paying for the first session (after a free consultation chat before hand), and maybe focused less on building that student/tutor relationship initially, does that make sense? Over time I feel like I’m building that crucial bond with the student, but I guess a limitation at the start (that could end up with losing students after that first session) is feeling the pressure to jump straight in too quickly because they are paying for your time Let me know if that makes any sense or if anyone feels the same😂🤪 Comment from : jessie beard |

As an introvert without hardly any social media presence, I cannot attract the students I want--much less any students at all I want to coach adults in conversational English in everyday and business contexts Comment from : Joann Colón |
