The pride of the trades is what scares the youth offbrWhen you have drug addicts, alcoholics, and narcissist “train you” really just use you for the stupid crap and not teach you anything You tend to just wanna go work at McDonald’sbrGet people that can actually train someone The trade industry is a very very toxic place Comment from : @DanielCarmichael-kn7vr |

If you don't bring value to the table, don't expect to eat brWorking your way up is a thing that requires years of long hours and little restbrAcquiring skills takes time The ability to perform mathematics and learn practical/technical skills is necessarybrSome can, some can't Comment from : @mcc9040 |
Pay decent wages Comment from : @RyanGerhart |
It’d be a hell of a lot easier on you guys hiring if 1 you’d start off paying more than $15 an hour and 2 If you didn’t REQUIRE years of experience We can’t get a job that UOU won’t teach Fuck off, boomers If you don’t change, I hope your business goes upside down Comment from : @RobertoGringo |

Theres no one stepping in because so many of you assholes are intolerable and push too hard Much happier working on my own Make a lot more now too You're all abhorrent managers, leaders, and "teachers" Everyone owning a trade business can't understand why but it's so obvious looking in from the outside that the leadership and mentorship doesn't exist in the industry anymorebrbrYou can't expect everyone to be skilled 90 of your labor force are going to be untrained YOU have to put in the sweat equity to train them But yall ain't doing itbrbrIt's yall Yall are literally the problem Comment from : @ThomasAnderson-d4i |
The pay is shit for what we're doing and the boss is making it all No incentive Comment from : @MicroGiantSESSwordofVictory |
I’ve been wanting to be an electrician, but I wasn’t born running romex and wiring receptacles so no one wants to hire me I even have a little bit of experience but it’s not 3-5 years of experience so I’m worthless apparently But everyone is complaining about how no one wants to join the trades, I know of several people that do but no one in the universe wants to train anyone Comment from : @turtlemcturtleson |
Nowadays your apprenticeships require 10 years of experience Were tf we do that at? Seems as if these job descriptions were posted by frustrated employers Comment from : @2Benjii222 |
Well the good part is soon they won't be able to find anyone to work the jobs they bid on That means the building industry is going to have to change their ways and reinstate The Apprentice journeyman Master programs and start paying people properly No one in the construction industry has had a raise for 20 years Construction industry are you out to destroy yourself or are you going to acquiesce to the necessity of your survival? Comment from : @jimda4910 |
I'd love to continue learning the electrician trade But I can't afford an apprentice salary at this point in my life I have a family I need to take care if and those low wages are not going to make ends meet Comment from : @alexanderhill1429 |
Average joes of the street could NEVER build simple cabinets Comment from : @neththom999 |
As soon as you tell them they have to put the phones away and do actual work, they walk out and hop online to cry that their boss was an asshole Comment from : @frankw7266 |
At this point the only good thing about trade jobs now is you can get the trade so that you can fix your own shit, nevermind working for a company Comment from : @AlexQ-777 |
I worked in trades for 5 years I left Good riddance Comment from : @someguy4040 |
Yeah um you CAN'T find anybody off the street to do a damn thing!!😂😂 Comment from : @marybetheby5184 |
"I knew the first day" yeah no wonder you cant find people Comment from : @Phyuck_yius_second_son_PhuckAA |
Trust me its definitely a “you can just go pick up any joe off the street” type of job Its just boring and nobody wants to do that shit Comment from : @Xzsxztreiii |
stop the hazing in the trades along with the unrealistic standards for beginners and the problem will be solved If you go through all these people it's not them it's you Comment from : @kurtiscal3msetccdwell618 |
It’s hard to learn from someone who knows what they’re teaching and refuses to help you gain knowledge and experience Comment from : @masterc9706 |
Trainees for hydro power plant technicians can start at around $35 an hr Pay for new inexperienced employees is actually not bad Plus if you stick with it and become permanent, you'll make way morewith good benefits Comment from : @WhoDat19 |
If companies paid for SCHOOL OR TRAINING I would do it rn Jus gotta wait n save up to go to school Comment from : @michaellandin2770 |
I just retired I worked 35 years in a trade Guess what? No one "taught" me either or paid well in the beginning I started out cleaning toilets, making coffee runs, and sweeping floors I paid attention, was respectful, and worked hard That is why I moved up the ladder and later had a great, challenging, and satisfying career and specialized in CNC programming building complex exhibits Now I have a good pension
brI tried training a few new guys over the years but they simply don't have the drive or motivation Every one of them let me down They think they're going to be paid well when they're not worth much at all Most of the time all they do is screw up and you spend more time fixing their mistakes than if you did it yourself I can overlook that, but the worst part is they are typically disrespectful and mouthy know-it-alls The exception in my experience are immigrants The have a good work ethic and know their place
brSo like it or not, to all these whiners all I can say is make yourself worth something because no one owes you anything or is going to hand you a silver spoon If that means making sacrifices that's what you do Comment from : @frogworth1622 |
Can you hire me? I’m 24 and I’m pretty experienced with tools… Comment from : @fugangfugang8800 |
You know if the Trades created more skilled workers they wouldn't be constantly WHINING about a shortage of skilled workers Comment from : @Sigmacenturion |
This is the problem with o ly sighing people with experience your not training g the next generation how many Jon's I didn't get because I'm under qualified can't get qualified if I can't work and learn on the job Comment from : @lootangshellhouse2506 |
I find that nobody has time to teach the new people coming into the trade They want you to figure it all out for yourself as they throw you into the fire Comment from : @chrissinha3931 |
So train them I don’t believe the hype of “employers can’t find employees” bullshit because I applied to tons of jobs and no one would even hire me! Even though I know how to do carpentry, plumbing, drywall and electrical work because of my dad Don’t have a license but I know how to do basic to intermediate stuff at least Comment from : @brandg24 |
I feel like I’m part of the problem, being a fit young man choosing to work at a computer desk for $28 an hour instead of giving any trade a second glance Comment from : @JoshiiWah |
I’m 28 I’m currently a maintenance tech of 3 years and I was lucky to have a group of people willing to train me I started off as an apprentice while going to school for my mechatronics degree brbrWith that being said, I still struggle to find a new job I want to pursue more electrical troubleshooting or programming, but no one is willing to hire and train I applied to a Walmart maintenance position, and was denied because I was “inexperienced”??? I found out they hired someone over me with no experience at all and straight out of trade school Which boggled my mindbr brI feel blessed with my current job, but at the same time stagnant Comment from : @asianmanfromasia |
Who wants to destroy their body for $23hr? Comment from : @benkenny3220 |
Why not just become a monk or a friar? Comment from : @SuperGreatSphinx |
Society devalues trades workers That's why there aren't as many We were all told by our parents "UNIVERSITY! UNIVERSITY! Stay in school!"brbrAnd now we don't have anymore tradesmen They been shafted and belittled for so long, now it's ending Comment from : @MikePurdue-ky9pm |
Definitely underpaid plus for example if you get a job paying $4000 a hour is a make believe number get paid 40 but the real money is around $2300 a hour because of taxes get taken out plus your gas money to go to work plus maintenance on your vehicle so you can go to work Good luck now because of millions of illegal immigrants coming across the border Comment from : @glenwoods8021 |
Train your fucking people problem solved Comment from : @matthewnelson4298 |
America is doomed Even blue collar guys adopted the white collar mentality of outsourcing and treating the little guy like $hit Comment from : @cityguyable |

Greed is killing the trades not a lack of interest People follow the money not jobs You want more people stop stealing from your skilled laborers The fact they don’t address the horrible pay is astounding Comment from : @KJ_R-9420 |

There is no shortage of skilled trades people English just isn’t their first language Comment from : @AlexxMahlum |
The issue is this, Most Large Companies/corporations and Small local trade businesses are not willing to not cut corners and train the next generation to plan and prepare in their respective trade From there point of view it comes off as having to give in double the Money, Energy and Time consumption to train/educate Young Men/Women to Learn and understand what they need to know in the long run However, this is only the tip of the iceberg issue The root cause is that our education system as in grade level school funded and controlled by our government has failed us time and time again and its only have gotten worse More people are now walking out of high school not wanting to pursue a higher education, Trade/skill or even learning anything with vaule in general Comment from : @moisesgarcia5422 |
I see a lot of excuses in these comments 🤔 Comment from : @keystoneplumber |
Anybody know of trades school rn for carpentry or plumbing? In California help a brootha out with solid programs Comment from : @TenacityB222 |

"This aint gojng to work out"brbrLike wtf train them Comment from : @419chris419 |
I am 24 and have 8 years experience in the trades They have taken care of me since I was 16, there are people but you gotta be willing to be patient and take some time showing them the ins and outs Within a year you should have someone who has enough experience to go out on their own for ya Especially if you take care of them pay wise If they don’t have to worry about money, they won’t leave you for someone paying $1 or more an hour Comment from : @sam29235 |
Fuck your trades always sabiting keeping people out Comment from : @manudogom1764 |
Dude the old guy who worked in the electrical department at my Homedepot I used to work at was a master electrician and he literally got picked up on the side of the road from what he told me He’s like 70 but still it’s insane back in the day yall would just picked people off the side of the road but now y’all are asking for way too much experience just to start out Like why are some of the jobs out there asking for like 2 years of experience for a trainee job for a plumber Y’all are doing it to yourselves 😂 Comment from : @KingDroza |
The reason why young people are "not stepping up" is because it was the boomer generation that refused to train, and would always require 7 years experience for an entry level job Comment from : @jaybartgis5148 |
Were y’all at Comment from : @candaceowens455 |
I went to take a test for a pipe fitter apprenticeship and the test ask questions about metals and how you would weld this and some were math related but isn’t the point to learn besides the math all the welding and metals in the apprenticeship Comment from : @Gopnik32 |
