My history is a bit hazy on the demonizing of blacksmiths I always thought they were called on to make things to kill or torture the alleged evildoers Not much is mentioned on them making "evil iron" I know in those times, a blacksmith was no one to cross, as they have plenty of weapons to choose from that level the playing field, such as caltrops

Ok, just to point out a few bits of misinformation: blacksmiths were responsible for iron work Hinges fences chandeliers, chains, things like that LOCK smiths made locks, and BLADEsmiths made weapons, and ARMORsmiths made armor Goldsmiths worked in gold, and silversmiths worked in silver, coppersmith, etc, you get the point White metal work was a SPECIFIC reference to the finish on armor We know this because the only references to “white metal” came about as armorsmiths making white metal (armor) were the ones to get government military contracts In some places and times smiths selling painted armor (often referred to as “black) to the government were fined There are simply too many broad strokes used in describing the craft in this video for any of it to be accurate Do your own research, or rely on archaeological records to inform you

hey im a blacksmith and history nut this video is good well done but there is some misinformation in it like the lords blacksmiths being responsible for the gates of the castle while work like that would need to be done by many smiths in order to repair it quickly still well done
