I think a turning point for wages as a Wind Turbine technician has high earning potential in the future The push for offshore wind in the US will push the wages upward as those onshore jobs will have to compete with them Also, if you are young with few responsibilities, traveling with a good company can jumpstart your net worth because you can save more living on the road Comment from : @SephShareBear |

I don't really care to jump into any trade because you can't make a decent living You take a Corvette ZR1 for example that's a 200,000 plus dollar car Most jobs just don't pay enough to have a nice home and two or three cars and maybe a bass boat Just to live a comfortable living so it's almost useless unless you're like a multi-millionaire you can't afford anything nowadays the days of being like my dad was back in the 80s Are gone brMy dad had a new Corvette a new Buick Grand National a brand new 50 GT convertible and had a new Cadillac and a brick house in the mid-80s Those days are gonebrSolar installer is a bunch of garbage because when everybody has solar panels you won't have any more work That's a useless tradebrI Comment from : @robd1859 |

What I haven’t seen mentioned as an advantage of the trades as well, is that in the coming “zombie apocalypse“ so many of the jobs that people work in today would be useless But learn a hands-on skill, such as being able to build or repair, either with welding or hammer and nails, be able to treat, illnesses, or wounds, or dental issues, and you will be able to trade your skills for food or other necessities I worked for many years writing software When there is no civilization left, that skill would be useless But the skills I gained in my second career as a registered nurse, pay benefits to me continuously in assessing and often times treating my own friends and family The same goes with the trades These skills you learn for your livelihood Also save you money during your off time when you want to wire your own house, rework, or repair, your own plumbing, or build your own outbuildings or remodel or expand your home working in the trades also puts you in close connection with friends who work in various trades and you learn to help each other in your areas of expertise Comment from : @jcjewell |

My problem is the fact that I’m making $17 an hour, am about to get a promotion which will jump me up to $60k a year, and I’m working in a kitchen in a grocery store I want to know a trade skill, but I’m afraid of the massive pay cut to transition from retail/restaurant work to a trade I would much rather work in a place for less than that, than make a career in a field I hate, but man a pay cut is still painfulz Comment from : @volantcord2210 |

Anyone have any recommendations of a trade that is not very physically demanding I was a millwright apprentice for 3 years but a car accident ended that and back problems have prevented me from getting into anything that is rough on the back Comment from : @JRoberts69 |
Bad work culture, long hours, and barrier to entry is why no one joins the trades Also there are some trades that you basically have to work like a caveman and break your body down (roofer, concrete guy, ironworker) that no one wants to do That’s why construction companies uses illegal immigrants as an advantage for low pay which drags the whole construction wages down and regular folks just opt in to become an electrician, plumber, and hvac tech Comment from : @C1K450 |

so the thing about hvac is the guys who get paid top dollar never stop their training theres always newer higher tech equipment, evn on houses we have AC to DC inverters and dont even get me started on cutom building management systems, you have control guys who program with their laptops, it gets insanely conplicated, and even in the entry level positions youre in hotter and colder conditipons than any other trade, in crawl spaces and attics it sucks ass even more so than plumbing thats why pays going up, im 27 and i havent met a commercial tech my age in socal yet Comment from : @vanhalenman60 |

Building wealth from nothing involves consistent saving, disciplined spending, and strategic investments Begin by creating a budget to track expenses and identify areas for savings Prioritize paying off high-interest debt and establishing an emergency fund As you build a foundation, start investing in low-cost options like index funds, and focus on continuous learning and improving your skills for better income opportunities Comment from : @Casey-summer |

I've been working in the fire sprinkler trade for 30 yearsbrTop wages have not risen for the entire 30 but the cost of living sure hasbrNow I have back problems and am in pain alwaysbrThe starting wage has more than tripled during this timebrThe companies have tripled what they charge during the same periodbrThis is worse than a dead end job I have to earn more and more outside of my day job to keep afloatbrI have driven my children away from the trades and will discourage any young person from doing so until the wages rise dramatically Comment from : @onemad1425 |

Well spoken of, James brbrAfter finishing high school at age 18, I wanted to do electrical engineering at state college but didn’t have the grades So I ended up going to community college for an Electromechanical engineering technician program for BAS In the hopes of getting into state college later on brbrI ended up burning out my budget after that associates program, while also turning my brain into scrambled eggs with so much theory work to do So I decided to work full time for one year as a BAS technician before going back to school for an electrician trade brbrFast forward seven years later; I’m a licensed journeyman electrician, with an associate degree in mechatronics, and work experience as a technician Building Automation Systems (HVAC controls) brbrMake decisions that have flexibility, know the strengths/weaknesses of your personality, develop high endurance within yourself and be unconventional in your approach to life Comment from : @alexsmith-ob3lu |

Thank you for doing this I am an attorney and I have worked as a carpentar I know a LOT of tradesmen making more than some attorneys - with no student debt Were I to go back, I would have gone into plumbing or one of the electrical trades Truth be told, being an attorney is really just another trade (in Vermont, a college grad can still become an attorney without law school) But it is a trade with a MASSIVE hurdle to entry and it is A LOT more stressful So my advice to the folks just starting out (including women), is to give the trades a serious look Comment from : @cubanmotion2010 |
