It was easy to see that the fake sovereign was in a high proof condition which is highly unlikely in that time frame The specimens did not look like the fake coin you have Also your tests are the basic ones Very few people have the acid Comment from : @silverfox108 |
Very insightfulbrbrWondering Do sovereigns increase in value at the same rate as the Britannia's (proportionate to the level of gold in them)? I ask given the variance in collectability of some designs being more popular than others, and given that the gold content is lower in the sovereign Comment from : @StevenNagle-e7g |

Some good basic tips 👍brInterestingly though, the colour variation in genuine sovereigns isn't due to gold oxidation It arises from the small amount of additional metals added to pure 24 ct gold to make into the (harder wearing) 22 ct coin gold The old Victorian ones apparently had a fair bit of silver, giving a very yellow colour; others used more copper giving a rose hue Modern sovereigns from the Royal Mint have a distinctly rose gold colour (still 22ct gold, of course) - but a lot a people prefer the older more yellow gold colour Comment from : @navstar7334 |

Not quite right at 10:30, tungsten has a very similar density to gold, so weight and dimensions would be similar for both Although I don't know if any tungsten fake sovs are around The mild steel ones are more likely i suppose Comment from : @watson946 |
There are Chinese Gov't made "fakes" (tungsten with THICK 24k gold plating) They pass almost all tests, including acid test, VERY precise digital scales, XRF, magnet, etc It doesn't pass the "ping"(sound test) or the "Sigma" test apparently Be very careful, China is sketchy AF! Comment from : @BeReal918 |

There are fakes made of 22 crt so actually it would be worth testing in with 22crt acid Or a much more expensive option would be to invest in a xrf testing machine Many dealers have one Comment from : @darrenwelling7562 |

I found 5 in my mums piggy bank they are shinny and thin same print and I don’t want to use acid on them cause they were my mum rip brI’m thinking of going to A coins dealer to see if they’re real or are that is so cool but I’m still gonna keep them even if they’re fake because they were hers she has literally a piggybank full of UK money and she’s never been to the UK like my dad from Scotland but he doesn’t remember having anything in there because they’re hers Comment from : @Videlrose |

Thank you very much for your video sorry I can't send money,I'm not with any feasible way to do it No credit card PayPal etc Very sorry there I have two sovereigns but one is a half sovereign and I'm guessing because it's smaller by at least about 1/3 cm or so or as big as an Australian 5¢ coinbrHow much does the half sovereign weigh please? Comment from : @petalwindsor1134 |
a full sovereign now in 2023 is around £400-420 plus depending on the monarchs need the queen victoria bun heads/young head in the video they're £450 plus if its a pre 1887 shield! in 2004 full sovereigns was about £40-50 for a full or £20-25 for a half now we add a zero to the price! plus if they're a proof graded coin 63 upwards they're £600 plus crazy prices gold nowadays! I was paying £5 a gram on new gold in 2000 from warren James or paying £2 scrap on 9ct nowadays there is very little money in gold unless you can get wearable items at scrap value at £16 a gram and sell for £20 a gram Comment from : @justinobrien3593 |
In the pic, I would say dull gold on left is real and shiny on right is fake How did I do? I personally would never ever never buy gold on eBay An investment that big should be bought from a coin shop or an online dealer like SD Bullion, Apmex or JM Bullion There are many others but those are just a few examples You want to be sure what your buying is real and with eBay your basically playing Russian roulette 50/50 chance it will be fake Always go with a reputable company or store, not eBay! Comment from : @LoveWatchingNDEs |

U can get under c sovereigns 18 c I just recently tested one of my sovereigns at a jewellers and tested 18 c , 788 weighted Sovereigns should be 798 but it was dated 1909 with what looked like a lot of wear so the 1 under seemed fair for the date and condition being very worn , but it was 18 c Comment from : @yoyoyo479 |
Will the 9k acid also work on 14k jewelry? Comment from : @kshak3125 |
If you compare the counterfeit 1911 sovereign to a genuine 1911 proof, you should be able to see how genuinely mushy the fake is The details on a real one in that condition are sharp Comment from : @nathanlane7467 |
