Lived in Austin since I was 13 due to my parents job Currently going on 31 and I gotta say, it's not the same city The "Keep Austin Weird" vibe is gone A lot of local businesses have closed to make way for high rise condos and bigger businesses Quite sad And traffic sucks even more now Way to crowded

I went to Austin back in June to visit, very nice, beautiful city Went to look at some apartments and I was surprised at how fast the cost of living has went up in the last couple of years With everyone moving there and lots of businesses moving there too it caused the cost of living to go up quickly than I thought it would I do love the city and the vibe though Austin is still a strong candidate for me to move to along with some other cities I’m considering throughout the US

We lived in Austin for 40 years before abandoning it last year Just too many negatives and worsening aspects of life there We didn't recognize the city anymore This clip should have noted the scorpions in the houses, the chiggers in the grass, cedar fever and other year-round pollens, the horrible right-wing one-party domination by horrible crooks that run Texas and overrule local politics, the dubious power grid that nearly collapsed entirely last year and will only grow more unreliable as millions more move there, and the coming environmental catastrophes of global warming and water shortages BTW, those 95-degree days extend well into December and begin again in April And people fleeing to the outer suburbs face hours of commuting to jobs -- not everyone is working from home We lived in the SW, worked at UT campus, and lost two hours a day, minimum, to commuting That's ten hours a week sitting in your car in the heat surrounded by traffic and not moving much

I really miss a lot of things about Austin, but mostly I miss all of my friends Luckily I can visit whenever I want Once you turn 50 in that city (I'm 58) you basically become invisible In fact they ask you to stay indoors on pretty days as well as after dark so you don't mess with the vibe

OK, I feel like a moron I could've sworn I spoke to someone a couple of years back that said Lake Travis was now known as Lady Bird Lake but I just looked it u and it's what we sued to call "Town Lake" that is now known as "lady Bird Lake", which is apparently it's official ACTUAL name The whole time I lived there I never knew this Always referred to it as Town Lake Anyway, Austin, was and, hopefully, still is one of the coolest places in the US At least to me Miss it soooo much!

Basically you can have a small home in Bay Area, but can spend a lot of time outside thanks to the weather Your property taxes wont go up wildly like in Texas, when home prices shoots upbrYour energy costs will be lower in Bay Area But rest of xalifornia is pretty dry and hotbrBut I dont think the whole of Texas can beat the landscape in and around Bay Area The beaches are great too but the water is very cold

Brother, you just made me miss Austin with all of my heart It was great to see the city again though through your lens! If you haven't already, moving to another city could be good as you are still young It's a hard decision to pick which one though! You would defo need to get out of Texas for a while If you go N/NE/S/SE you will find a very different world I'd be willing to bet, at the end of the day, you would miss Texas Not just Austin, but Texas There's just something about TX that gets ya I miss it every day Thanks for the video! Couple comments The open feel of East round rocks amazing coming from 28 years of living in the Smokey mountains And yet we’re able to drive 25 mins and be in the hill country which has a very Californian vibe A lot of the Californians moving here like that region as it feels very similar to what they had Two I’m finding the heat to be worth it as I’m wearing shorts on this 77 degree December day It’s really a trade-off You can live in Colorado and suffer cold winters in exchange for mild summers or you can live in Austin and deal with extremely hot summers in exchange for mild fall and winter‘s Really boils down to what extreme your more comfortable with Also, our 2500 sqft home on East round rock was 500k Nothings cheap out here believe that! It is rather expensive here for generally everything Not Cali expensive but I’d say most people wanting to live comfortably here are here because of opportunities I came for Apple and love it here but I also come from a small town feel so the massive scale of everything here is pretty cool
