I always just take a torn note to a bank and have them replace it They must fill these forms out pretty often

Here is the US, if a piece of currency is torn and more than 60 of it remains intact, it is generally considered eligible for redemption at full value You can just take it to any bank and they will give you a new note

In the US, the larger part of the note keeps all the value, with 51 of the note, 1 corner and 1 serial number needing to be present (corner to stop corner cutting schemes)

In India, the total value is assigned to majority part having at least 80 (need not be a single piece) I feel this is fairer since the government isn’t stealing the rest from you

Orgianally watching this I said it's BS And I was sort of right and sort of wrong after fact checking So more than 50 of the note had to be intact and you have to prove the other half can't be recovered If accepted you will get a new $10 note not half $5 as the video claimed

In Canada as long as you can see what it is and it’s mostly in tact, you can just change them at the banks The bank does whatever it does item after I was in line once and a guy brought in a few hundreds he’d melted in the dryer You could still see they were hundreds, but they were all shrunken and crumple melted, the bank just counted them as bets they could and have him new ones
