@Broy513
My best English teacher in high school (ap class) introduced us to “Of Mice and Men” by playing an audiobook two chapters at a time I honestly don’t know if she did activities or not along with it Maybe a simple quiz? I know we discussed it aloud My point is, I went into that class hating to read, and came out with fond memories of some great literature She turned books into unit studies and it worked!

I find this horrifyingLiterature should not be reduced to its storyline If thats the way to do it, who wants to be a teacher?

@hemasharma6364
Hey I completely agree with you Yes we need to accept this fact that children run away from books But what to do Teachers have to make them read and no matter how much enthusiasm we teachers showthey still despise reading So i have devised my own fun ways to get them engaged in reading Its a cakewalk with primary class students and I have to plan ahead for senior classes after which the class gets completely engaged but veryyyy noisy at the same time

@JulieWoman
When we read Lord of the Flies in high school, we had a crazy teacher We found some enormous stick, probably from a broom or mop, tied a willing kid to it, and marched up and down the school hallways chanting, “Kill the pig Cut her throat Spill her blood” I’ll never forget it Boy were we in trouble😂
Comment from : @JulieWoman

@bbbotc
This is one of the most profoundly unacademic and infuriating approaches to literature I have ever, EVER heard You should be ashamed to be a literary scholar
Comment from : @bbbotc

@Dreadandcircuses
"Betray them by making them read the story"brbrYou need to find a different line of work

Comment from : @elliej97

@curiousmindao
🤣 I can total relate to this I've taught (tried to teach) Lord of the Flies to ESL students last semester Let's just say it took a lot of effort and scaffolding to get the few that were reading it, to just push through and finish it What an experience
Comment from : @curiousmindao

@maisaad922

@donnatrump1403
If you tell them the story, will they really wanna read it for themseĺves? They know all about it and are ready to move on
Comment from : @donnatrump1403

@romangoddess5004
Literature is first and foremost a reading class, and so literary works should be read However, I agree with you that an effective way to motivate the students to read is for the teacher to first tell the story or provide them a copy of the summary or show them the movie version After reading, let the students interact with the material through the three general theories of literary criticism, ie formalism, author-centered, and reader-response This can be done based on the teacher's prepared questions and activities
Comment from : @romangoddess5004

@pelicancovebeach2873
I start with Francis Bacon talking about different bookssome books are to be tasted, sone digested, etc they can read what they want English is for learning language, style, etc None of that stopped me from reading Robin Cook when I was a teen
Comment from : @pelicancovebeach2873

@civisperpetuamdebitu
I was given a question packet on this story I completed it to get the paper into grade transaction out of the way My desire was to hear the story and express an honest understanding after
Comment from : @civisperpetuamdebitu

@robertvalentine1049
I've just hired a English literature tutor to come out to my house to teach me just asking what stuff do I need can't use computers because I'm partially sighted so i can only use physical media thank you
Comment from : @robertvalentine1049

@JasonBurnsStuartMcleoud
Teachers are "stabbing them in the back with stuff by some dead white guys" / "Books are dead trees" - Ok Do you mean read them the story? And trade one receptive skill for another Paraphrase the story? I am trying to unpack what you are saying
Comment from : @JasonBurnsStuartMcleoud

@sushmajeet
Can you show an example sir?
Comment from : @sushmajeet

@sulekhaacharya2429
Wow Amazing video for English teachers Love the way you cut your eye contact with camera and came back again Symbolism to the core Only a man with deep knowledge can do it

@nilohsnm
I am argentinian and i also hate reading inglish books but I loved LOTF
Comment from : @nilohsnm

@EC-yb5qq
I think it depends on the teacher My teacher presented this book to our class in high school and we loved it I think it is so necessary, especially these days, to get kids excited about actually reading a book Books are not dead It is my opinion that if you feel that way, that you have disconnected from what makes books so special and fun and that is something you need to figure out within yourself Don't tell people the lie that books are dead because you have not figured out how to excite students (who are surrounded by technology) by reading physical books
Comment from : @EC-yb5qq

@gbonfil
Hi I am a literature high school teacher in Israel but couldn't the kids like the reading itself? and what if i tell them the story i actually ruin their experience of finding the story by themselves?
Comment from : @gbonfil
