Low back is ideal but regular sofas don't have place for my drink I need it secure so the bass doesn't spill it if on a table Who wants to add a table in their theater Comment from : @flyers10az |
For me, a high back is a must for a movie watching chair or sofa Like, I want to be able to lay back and relax No neck muscles should be needed :P But I agree that the theatre-style chair are terrible I want to be able to move too, not be forced to face the screen head on all the time I either want a sofa, so I can lean to either side, or a chair that spins Some kind of foot rest is also mandatory Comment from : @ybra |
Nah home theater should look home theater not crappy cheap furniture awful idea Comment from : @coolshariq |
I’m sorry those options look uncomfortable as hell I’m not giving up my Diamanté chairs with sound shakers for any of that crap Comment from : @jacksherman5696 |
Smart take on the challenges with 'theater' furniture with respect to audio Timely for me as I am starting to shop for seating (2-3 people at a time) You gave me something to think about Thanks! Comment from : @michaelmanus7765 |
This video is really useful as I've recently converted my garage and I'm looking to use is as a theatre/gaming room To be honest, I've always found seats in a theatre to be really uncomfortable after about an hour or so, and I was thinking if I'd really want a rigid style theatre seat in the room I'm going to look outside the box for a comfortable 3 seater sofa with a recliner option Comment from : @AlexMoran-c2p |
Lovesac baby! Comment from : @Jantonvid |
Thank you so much , this is the video I was expected to watch , because I don’t have a dedicated living room , good for living room Comment from : @lakmalkahandawa8190 |
LoveSac Sactional Any arrangement, high quality, meets back pillow and ottoman requirements Comment from : @EbonySeraphim |
Have you looked at King Living's collection? The King Cloud Premiere looks pretty amazing and elegant Comment from : @jgalvez81 |
I have one reason why you'll have to pry my motorized home theater chair out of my cold, dead hands: I need the motorized headrest in order to move my head to the correct position to view the movie out of the distance part of my progressive lenses You'll know what I mean when you get old enough to have to use progressive lenses Sure, I could just sit up straight and I wouldn't have that problem But reclining while watching a movie is the way to go for comfort and support Comment from : @JohnnyDelta-24 |
Recommend too: the Collins collection from Lazy Boy Extremely comfy, options include long couch and sectional options Durable and holds up well to a lot of use I own one of each configuration Also, a great number of fabrics to chose from Comment from : @TruthHasSpoken |
Andrew, do you have any recommendations on how to build a gaming setup for the cinema room? Do i just add an extra table and remove 2 chairs or? Hopefully it makes sense Currently when using mouse and keyboard im in an awkward posistionbrbrAlso we did buy 4 sets of really expensive cinema chairs which are really nice but i really shouldve seen your video first before buying them lol We did get them used, so it set us back about 15000kr about 3000 dollarsbrbrKind regardsbrRasmus:) Comment from : @rasmusvestergaard4155 |
E X A C T L Y MY THOUGHTS TOO Comment from : @hunterlogan2913 |
when ever i see low back seats i just think of riding in my dads 87 s-10 with a bench seat and how much i LOATHED it compared to normal seats with head rest Comment from : @vostroyanfirstborn94 |
WE JUST SIT ON THE FLOOR!!!!!! Comment from : @pietromanno8916 |
The RH Cloud sofa is my goal I sat in that thing and no longer cared that it cost a second mortgage It's amazingly comfortable And who cares about getting out of it (cause it isn't for the weak) Anyone who hasn't tried Go find a RH showroom and try it Comment from : @esolo4751 |
Does anyone have the Wade Logan Home Theater sofa? It looks super nice and at the price I want to spend for a first HT room Down the line true HT power recliners but for now these are what I'm looking at I'm glad I watched this video till the end because I would have never known about it Thanks Andrew! Comment from : @JC-bl9bo |
Sofas, sectionals etc are far more conducive to spontaneous interruptions to the cinematic experience Comment from : @NathanMaharaj |
A lot of R&D goes into theatre sofas I would venture to guess they work and people prefer them for a reason Comment from : @briandeal8927 |
"One of the Big One's" is Cell Phones Ringing Comment from : @deansyverson4841 |
High-back seats, bad Sectional seats that turn one ear toward the sound and one ear away from the sound, good? Really? Most of your content is pretty good, but this was just inane Comment from : @Mudinyeri |
That furniture looks like a good way to develop bad posture Comment from : @maxzarmar8908 |
I definitely agree with the core principles of more traditional furniture with lower backs, but none of these really do it for me Powered recline with the headrest that folds up from flat to meet your head as you recline seems like a way to go Also, cupholders are just a must The stuff from Moffit Home seems pretty good Comment from : @roBLINDhood |
There is a barn home for sale in New Hope PA for 6 million It originally listed for 8 😂 The theater is in the attic and the front row has 3 sided squared sofa The back row has 4 vintage airline seats Just like the ones you pictured in the video Comment from : @maya_coqsalonga |
I prefer bed with cozy latex mattress Comment from : @Rajesh_0190 |
We got a ridiculous price (60 off) a 3 seat Stressless Emily, leather, with 2 powered seats It’s so freaking comfortable, beats any Valencia hands down Comment from : @MasterChief37 |
Condemns expensive theater chairs, but pimps a sectional set for 21k Comment from : @tardis9436 |
Yeaof course theres a difference, but it doesnt matter Thats like saying theres a difference when you put an acoustic panel on the wall Yea, and? Calibration is going to take care of the any spl differences that need to be made up for in the rears Alsothe surround backs are 2 out of 17 other speakers, if you include subs, in a 746 setup brbrI just dont get how putting your hands around your ears is an effective experiment brbrFurniture absorbs sound, it doesnt reflect itbrbr Itssound and it will certainly have no negative impact on the other speakers It may even have a positive impact on the front, much more important speakersjust like putting an acoustic panel directly behind your head would be great for reflectionsbrbrI feel like you are throwing darts in the dark here I would not give up my tall seats for anything The rear speakers still sit just above thembrbrNot that it mattersat all Anyone buying expensive seating is going to have access to eqbrbrNothing in your headrest is going to reflect sound It will absorb a teeny tiny amount of the higher frequencies If it absorbs too much, thats what eq is forbrbrThat point was the equivalent of saying it is bad to put acoustic panels on the back wall Its not even bad to put an acoustic panel directly in front of a speaker brbrAs long as its being calibrated, this point fails A headrest was one of the main things i was looking for I want to be able to sit upright I dont want a modern seat with a short back It certainly isnt going to make anything sound better because there is more space around your head! LolbrbrAre the headrests youve tried made of glass? Comment from : @Cblan1224 |
Who watches movies fully upright anymore? There's a reason why those recliners are in every movie theater--most people don't want to sit in a chair anymore for 2-3 hours I consider myself a minor audiophile and even I wouldn't trade comfort for better surround sound Comment from : @rjm656 |
Definitely was not expecting that "KO" in the movie theaters during this chair review!! Lol 😅 Comment from : @jaimebirrueta5203 |
I am in the middle of building a man cave come cinema and I actually went looking for chairs like he ones everyone uses by with a slender head support I found it baffling (pun intended) that anyone wants a big headrest It makes no sensebrbrGlad to find that others see the same thingbrbrLet's spend 20k on speakers and electronics and literally bugger it up with a bad seat 😂 Comment from : @niro750 |
Agreed for critical music listening, terrible take for home theater enjoyment Comment from : @LoganRST |
No head support for watching movies has to be a pass Comment from : @Ryglado |
We went for 2x2 of Natuzzi Baltimora its so comfortable, has a recliner but the head is back by default so you can recline but keep the head clear, so the recliner has an up down, and head has an up and down, so you can sit up or recline, we chose this over cinema seating We were going for a 3 and 2 seater but worked better with 2x2 love this review Comment from : @MrModerate_kane |
I love this channel dearly, but man oh man, I cannot agree with any of those recommendation It seems like author/s have forgotten the comfort aspect of listening out watching movies Huge thumb down Stick with audio, leave furniture and decor Comment from : @dunamite |
I love theater recliners, but I have to be honest, I wish I would have never bought electric recliners Seems like a good idea until the weakest link in the chain (power supply connections) craps out At least with the old mechanical, I can fix it and continue to enjoy the chair My electric chairs constantly want to stop working and it is only a matter of time before they don’t come back to life Comment from : @nickz6143 |
Bean Bag Chairs ??? Comment from : @davidhosmer1424 |
Thank you Comment from : @johndennis3181 |
I really liked this episode Please do show so more options I kinda liked those lounge chairs 🪑 What about comfi computer chairs They can roll around and recline I don't know just a thought 🤔 Comment from : @donjaun540 |
The thing is, your surrounds and rear surrounds are supposed to be up high 1 to 2 feet above your head, so the chair does not matter If they are down low, you are doing it wrong Comment from : @m4nc1n1 |
Some interesting choices and understand about the high backs on typical theatre seats — like the 8 — I have Did you take into account though, that everyone who comes into my home theatre, RECLINES the chair So I am not sure your idea of having a pillow around your ears is really meaningful? I could agree if the chair back is typically kept upright, but no one ever does that I have seen in real-time However, I appreciate your opinion and gives me pause for thought should I ever decide for replacements Thanks! 👍👏 Comment from : @marvinabugov4579 |
My only problem with the suggestions is I’m 6ft 3 and I have sat on similar sectionals and couches with tiny backs and I can’t stand them The prices except on the discount items you linked are equal to or greater I’d rather buy a much more comfortable item for the same price or less Comment from : @vindicatorx |
Fantastic video However I just can’t relate Looking at all the options provided would be a horrible experience for me Comment from : @chazzico |
Like the content I've been looking at theatre seating by valencia You've kinds swayed me otherwise now finding comfort is harder than it seems Comment from : @travisnelson5863 |
Please do a part two Take the chance and be even more creative Comment from : @danielwoodard680 |
I have the feeling that sofas and couches aren't as ergonomic and supportive to the upper back, lower back and neck as much as the home theater seatings Am I wrong? Comment from : @tonezou3918 |
Valencia Oslo Ultimate or Tuscany Ultimate 😊 Comment from : @hastensavoir7782 |
Valencia theatre seats are unmatched Comment from : @hastensavoir7782 |
I don't know when you watch long movies, all those chairs and sofas without neck or head support quickly become a huge problem - you just can't fully relax Comment from : @NightRaven1666 |
Newly improved high back theater chair with integrated speaker! Comment from : @andyespenan5919 |
Hi, good day I love all these options but i am having trouble finding them online Do you have direct links to each option stated in the video? Comment from : @demorippa |
"Home theater seating is expensive""Try one of these $13,000 sectionals instead" What am I missing here? Comment from : @robertheaton658 |
Row One seating address these issues Comment from : @DigitalDonAV |
Thanks! Comment from : @williamjohnson2585 |
Most of the seating in this video looks like it would offer me zero neck or head support unless I slump down really low which would give me a low back ache within 3 minutes I do agree that "theater seating" is not really desirable for most of us without a dedicated "theater room" But give me a recliner or some head support and I"ll sacrifice a little rear surround effect to not be in agony And why is not having individual, removable cushions on a sofa/ sectional more desirable / easier to clean? Personally I prefer them so they can be rotated, so you're not wearing out the fabric and cushion of that one preferred viewing seat Wah wah wahI know😂 Comment from : @keithb9189 |
I don't understand why so many 'theatre' seating options have giant, high headrestsbrNobody seems to offer the comfort of these big reclining options with a trimmed down headrest Comment from : @chrisbrown2174 |
1:55 me wearing headphone lol 😂 😢 Comment from : @NativeNotTaken |
I think the best home theater chair would actually be a fancy computer chair The ones that have the netting material for the headrest and offers good upper and mid back support but don’t block any sound But it would look funny in a room Comment from : @dperr338 |
I’ve been watching movies on a beautifully tufted camel leather mid century modern couch for the past 10 years I’m ready to ascend to the next level I’m ready for a couch with cup holders! Comment from : @MrVisde |
No love for lovesac??? Comment from : @mrfreezey1 |
Speakers in chairs have been very prominent as in gaming chairs with high backs Comment from : @RealCounterfeitCash |
I don't like how movie theaters (actual and in home) are all about these giant "comfy" chairs but it's much better imo than a regular living room couch, chair, or sectionalbrbrtbh I always loved the old regal cinema stadium seats a regular seat, some cushion and a cup holder the amc chairs are gigantic Comment from : @regularaccount9347 |
Oooof Some bad calls here I couldn't happily sit in any of the recommended chairs for 30 mins, much less 2 hours Work your audio around great neck support, not vice versa Comment from : @RogerOThornhill |
I like how your alternative seating choice was a sectional that was 21 grand Comment from : @CoordinationDept |
Thank you, Andrew and Kristi! I know nothing about home theater and have watched a ton of your videos to learn, lol thanks! Two questions: 1) What coffee table do you have? It has a natural/oak wood look, rectangular shape I want to guess Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel but not sure 2) Should I go with an AV receiver (such as Onkyo TX-RZ50) or separates (such as a Processor plus Amp from Emotiva)? I am looking for a 92 setup that I will build over time The ability to upgrade to 112 is a nice to have but our setup is unlikely to get that far for my set up We have a somewhat open concept room in the basement with no room behind our sectional couch which is up against the wall So far, I started by buying two Klipsch RP 8000F IIs I need to add a TV (probably 83 inch LG C2) and receiver or processor I will add more speakers over time I will likely get the receiver/processor next because it is more affordable than the TV and I want to test out the speakers Thanks for your help and wisdom! Comment from : @DTatYoutube |
Man I love my theater chairs I have 6 in 2 rows of 3 Yes its in a dedicated room The head rest us tall but I and most guests and family typically recline and it becomes a non-issue for surround soundstage Good test is the Dolby Atmos test tracks like Amaze Nothing wrong with couches or sectionals but they don’t have the same comfort, like the ability to recline Comment from : @mpitogo1978 |
One Single Question : Which is the best sofa which has wider handrests We are a family of 6 So planning to put one 3 on the front and 3 on the backbrbrThank you so much for this video ❤️ Comment from : @joshuvaantonio |
I'm curious as to how tall you are Typically i find that chic or jice looking furniture never and i mean never had any back support also ive never experienced loss of any sound either Comment from : @hillre14 |
Would love to see more recommendations for modern 'traditional theatre seating' options for a dedicated room, including some European furniture like Moovia's Budapest Comment from : @mojojojo_BB |
Finally, so glad I’ve found someone that shares this opinion Comment from : @RemixerUltimate |
I blind bought a Bellini sectional and I would like to share my take on it It is a lot lower than a normal sofa and if you have back problems, not good for long viewing or listening sessions I love the way it looks, but not the way it feels Comment from : @JamesGatica |
Club chairs ? Comment from : @rubegrande |
Honestly I love the furniture-esq videos! Comment from : @ReubenNinan |
Hi guys! Thanks so much for this video I'm really leaning towards that Wade Logan "home theater sofa" - did you choose it based on style, or have you had a chance to try it out? Just wondering if it's comfortable Comment from : @dpcummerbund |
I pretty much hate all the offerings for home theater seats for the reasons you listed The prices are astronomical and generally they aren't very comfortable I may be in the minority but I also hate that pretty much all of them are leather I am always warm and i feel like I stick to a leather chair or sofa I'll take cozy and comfortable over bells and whistles and RGB lights Comment from : @J4Berg |
Not sure why you think everyone abandoned theaters Comment from : @stevemartinez960 |
A lot of greaf furniture inspiration in this video, please make more furniture videos for other use cases Comment from : @pedrovisgueira |
I'll never stop going to the movies and I hope I'm not the only one here Comment from : @pedrovisgueira |
I was recently in the market, and got a sectional Comment from : @qua7771 |
Our local theater swapped out their chairs for super comfy, extra wide, power reclining seats a fewquite a few years ago I can not stand them They don't lean back The headrest is so high and forward it pushes against the back of my head Even when reclined Comment from : @wompa70 |
I LOVE LOVE LOVE those home theater seats that you recommended at the end A perfect compromise between traditional theater seating and stylish sofa I want it! Comment from : @TheWolfCub71 |
Lol! I finally feel vintigated with our super comfy couches we have in our home theater We even have two ottomans that have storage for pillows and blankets We have one couch on a rear risor and one in front We also have bean bags on the floor in front of the couch ,in front of the screen The kids love the bean bags Comment from : @number1pappy |
Wow, great video You have hit on what I’ve been thinking for years Great content andrew Comment from : @stevekuske8540 |
Great video, Kristi (and Andrew!) and perfect timing now that I’m moving I’ve been looking at Stressless It’s been excellent for my finicky fused lower back Not cheap, but like the Eames it’s stylish and comfortable It’s also pricey I’m looking for alternatives since I can’t afford more than the couch I already own brbrNeedless to say I’d love a follow-up I don’t like Theater Aesthetic Most sectionals and conventional items like you recommend — which I like — are torture So if you look up Stressless and think of alternatives… you’ll make my spine cry for joy! Comment from : @TheIronWaffle |

Don’t build a home theater specific room if you want to use your home cinema system!brI’ve seen too many home theater rooms being build from scratch for very enthusiastic owners, only to hear them say that they rarely use them after they’re built and ready!brbrWhile the main reason I hear is that “I don’t have time to use it”, the reality is usually closer to the fact that having black walls all around does help to tame light reflexions, but makes for a very unpleasant place to be for more than the 15 or 30 minutes that the prospective buyer s while being subjected to a professional demobrbrAs human beings, very dark places aren’t natural or comfortable, and I believe our brains start to associate going to the “Theater room” with that, even if not on a conscientious levelbrbrIf you want to really appreciate movies in all audio and image quality glory, build your main living room in such a way that it feels natural and comfortable, with good natural light, and use the blinds (and a drop on screen) for when you want to have that bigger movie experience 😉brbrIt has to be a nice place to be in everyday, when you’re only talking with friends, listening to music, reading a book, or just relaxingbrIt should be your daily living room, not a variation of a bat cave, just because commercial systems are a scaled up of exactly that! 😉brbrAs humans, feeling comfortable is very important in order to enjoy some things, and convenience is also a factorbrbrSome will feel that having a “regular” looking living room doesn’t give them the bragging rights that a dedicated space does, but no one is supposed to buy things for that reasonbrbrIn the end, the most important thing is to have a system that the owner not only loves, but that he actually uses regularly, and in a natural way Comment from : @MrRocktuga |
When are we getting a whole home tour of your place? Comment from : @adamdennisky |
Are high back chairs really that bad for sound? All high backs? I say this as someone with a general dislike for sofas with low backs as I just find myself slouching down into them to get some neck support The base of my tv is probably just over 2ft from the ground so it’s not too high Comment from : @kael13 |
Sorry, but right when I saw that first couch there was a major issue you ignored A Home Theater can, due to physics, only have ONE really good seating position for audio, and that's right in the middle Now, the larger your room is the wider that sweet spot, but it doesn't change the fact that the middle seat is always going to be the only truly ideal one in a symmetrical setupbrAnd what do most of these couches not have? Right, a middle seat Most 3 Seaters these days have 2 cushions and a big gap in the middle, so whoever is sitting in the sweet spot will be sitting between two cushions which will only work if there is no big gap and they are relatively firmbrThis is an issue, both for home theater seating and couches btw and finding a couch that actually has individual "seats" for every person is depressingly rarebrbrAlsothere is one option if you want seperate seats, get some IKEA Poäng chairs, they are among the most comfortable chairs you can get and are relatively cheap Comment from : @rolandrohde |
