Technically all coins and medals are "numismatic" since they all pertain to the study of money Of course, I know most people are talking about "numismatic" from a value standpoint When most stackers think of coins with high numismatic value, they think of slabbed Morgan dollars and slabbed Pre-1933 US gold coins However coin dealers have different views of what is a numismatic coin in terms of value Common date Morgan dollars and common date Pre-1933 US gold coins still closely track the spot price of precious metals, as well as having a modest numismatic premium Thus common date Morgan dollars and Pre-1933 US gold coins aren't truly "numismatic" in terms of value, the prices of those coins still are influenced by spot prices However, Morgan dollars and Pre-1933 US gold coins still command a hefty premium over bullion coins such as silver Eagles and gold Eagles For this reason, coin dealers refer to common date Morgan dollars as "generic silver" and common date Pre-1933 gold coins as "generic gold" Since generic silver coins and generic gold coins track the price of metals with an additional numismatic premium, they represent the bridge between bullion coins and truly numismatic coins For a coin to be truly numismatic, the spot price of metals has to be a non-factor in the value of the coin For example, I paid $380 for a 1921 high relief Peace dollar The 1921 Peace dollar is a key date coin, so it isn't a common generic silver dollar It is obvious that the spot price of silver played no role in the value of my 1921 Peace dollar The $380 that I paid for the 1921 Peace dollar is all numismatic value For a coin to be truly numismatic from a value standpoint, spot price must be a non-factor to the value of the coin

I wonder about grading spending the money which seems to kick value vs no grade on lunars for instance which have great record of value increase i have bought both graded for sure on very high price coins and a few others but majority non graded collection

I agree with you and appreciate your thoughts I just got a e-mail today from MCM that they just got brand new 2017 graded pandas ( and don't worry about length, I always watch till end )
