This is very interesting, because they are explaining their first hit record - however, it is not the first record The Flying Lizards released Their first single was a cover of Summertime Blues, originally recorded by Eddie Cochrane Deborah sounds petulant, and wossiname Cunningham hilarious They only made 1500 of the record, and me and the woman who became my wife each had one

I will forever remember this song I was going into high school at the time Suddenly this uber bizarre bland bare song came on the radio and everyone just kind of looked at it sideways It sounded like it was recorded by someone in their kitchen using their pots and pans It sounded terrible But it was also interesting because of it Now it is a classic To me it is the version of money

I have watched other interviews with the group and all these years later you can tell there is still some hard feelings amoung the former members for a few reasons A Good version of the song thow I think it relays the coldness and materialism of the subject of the song The beatles vershion and lennon allmost make it to warm and rosy with there singing style masking the very ichy and materialistic/gold digging subject matter of the song itself The flying lizzards style for this song as they said drained it of its warmth and gave a straightforward approch that is both catchy and uncomfortable all at once

This kind of snuck in with new wave pop? I f don't know if '79 was too early for new wave but I feel that music was changing fast enough in the late 70s that this version of Money had a vapid mechanical feel to it as bands with mechanised synths were kicking off
