Bitcoin is designed to remove any extra benefit to mining If you many people gain an extra benefit such as heating, the mining difficulty will increase without a corresponding increase in the bitcoin price, until the block reward in terms of fiat is equal to the cost of mining plus the heating cost savings Comment from : Gregory Snelgar |
I guess you answered my question, "Would it make sense to have the world governments mine Bitcoin so very decentralized and have it back their currency?" I do like the idea of every household running an asic, one day Comment from : Jackson Thomas |
We <3 u 2 Matt Comment from : Karl Hungus |

I pre-ordered the original butterfly labs miner in 2012 My kids hated it lol because it was too loud Comment from : Bitcoin Cavalry |

A ASIC water heater and space heater just makes sense… I hope the market sees this and some innovative people produce these things Comment from : cramsa |
The shitcoiners could care less about economic freedom… the Etherium crowd will try to spin the fact that they are now captured, they will make it seem “good” Just watch… Comment from : cramsa |

great contenti 100 agree! every household and business should have a mining rig in-house! VERY VERY important Comment from : Airic |
Hi Matt great video as always Can you please show us a step-by-step instructional video of how to do exactly what you’re stating in this video of mining bitcoin through your hot water heater? I remember when you showed us on the paid subscription on how to buy bitcoin on trezor through Coinbase it was very helpful In fact that’s how I got into bitcoin was through that instructional video Comment from : Un-confiscate-able Money |
One thing I'm worried about is Bitcoin being mined by only elites in the future We're already seeing ASIC mining machines now cost $3000 to enter And they run 3000 watts and are super loud What kind of ASIC machines will we see in another 15 years? The middle class will be left behind Comment from : Djabooty Lebowski |
I've been distracted by the pandemic But there have been many mining innovations lately For both individual mining and pool mining The possibilities for harvesting the heat are almost limitlessbrbrFor example, the fans can be easily replaced with quieter ones Room thermostats can be interfaced to portable miners like some space heaters have It's not necessary that all miners run all the time So an intermittent mode of operation might still be profitable, economical and utilitarian for home mining and heatingbrbrWhen Satoshi solved the Byzantine general's problem he had to think outside the box He couldn't rely on a centralized source for validation, so he used a decentralized system of consensus for validation Others didn't see this because they were too rooted in the false efficiency of rigid top down thinkingbrbrThere are so many possibilities👏👍🤠🗽🧡🦅🚀♾️ Comment from : Leslie Guinn |

Bitcoin is the only solution to get stranded energy(methane, streams etc) and can also convert pig manure and used cooking oil into energy and last but not least it can heat homes for cheap or even at a profit Comment from : Ashdraked |
Matthew if you cover Bitcoin mining from scratch, I am really interested I want to mine using rooftop solar panels I don't enough have capital to start right now but I will be ready in 2-3 years Before that I want to be well prepared before going in Enjoy the Sunday🤗 Comment from : Prasun |

I buy posschain too it will be enough for me if it makes x10 Comment from : Scott Joplin |
guys what is posschain? I hear everyone is talking about it how can I buy it? Comment from : Blue Sniper |
I am investing on blockchain projects since 2018 I bought posschain for $2000, it will skyrocket during the bull season Comment from : ynslilkey |

Bitcoin ASIC mining at home is problematic because of the high cost, noise and heat There is a better way Several mining pools allow you to mine altcoins and get paid in Bitcoin You can buy mini ASIC altcoin miners for relatively low cost that are quiet enough for your living space, draw much less power, and are easy to set up This is passive income, KYC free Bitcoin You probably don't like the idea of using altcoins (shipcoins) in any way, but if used only as a means to acquire Bitcoin, maybe not so bad Comment from : Stephen Ward |
The title of the video is the default in monero pow algorithm random x-the wet dream of every btc maxi Comment from : Amir Eskenazi |
A Bitcoin miner in every home would mean that the centralization of electricity generation becomes a problem for sovereignty How do we prevent the utility companies from jacking the price, or rationing power, or imposing rolling blackouts in an attempt to disrupt the Bitcoin network and defend the top-down fiat system?brbrThey'll invoke the same excuses, "saving the planet", "protecting our customers," etcbrbrThis rabbit hole goes quite deep, doesn't it? Comment from : Ryan M |
Tnx Comment from : Denis šego |
Great idea, but I live in a rural area where either satellite or fixed wireless [cellular] are the only internet options Both are slow and/or capped Comment from : Bruce Showalter |
Once i have enough disposable income, i will be installing a couple asics But as a mountain biker, im having problems saving money with the proce of parts and bikes are crazy expensive also its my job so i need a reliable mountain bike Comment from : sergio LandZ |
I just started my own node this week I guess mining is the next step How to get the best deal on an ASIC?brbrThe ETH move to PoS removed the potential for ETH to help stabilize our power grid as is needed with the transition to green energy sources kek Comment from : Confusione Infinito Absurdum |

Hey Matthew, it just occurred to me to ask you, what is prohibiting the possibility of the United States government and regulators to never ever establish any kind of regulations for bitcoin in order to not legitimize that asset In other words by not legitimizing or looking at it as a legitimate commodity the US government can forestall for a long time or indefinitely search that the largest institutions of investment will forever avoid bitcoin as a legitimate asset Comment from : PURPLE SHADE SMOOTHIE |
👏👏👏👏👏👏 Comment from : Tom |
Bitcoin is a censorship resistant swarm creature It's a virus to government control Comment from : The Pup |
There is a company that installs mining containers that heat greenhouses Comment from : WestTexasHODLer |

Dear Trader University, I read that bitcoin hashrate and difficulty are at their highest ever right now Can you make a show on why that is the case when we are in a bear market where people and companies are unplugging their mining machines? Thanks Comment from : Adimchi Onyenadum |
Economics don't work out and what about summer when it's really hot, you need to have cooling or they will melt very fast Many have learned that the hard way and the cost of cooling will take your tiny profits And the monotonous noise is extreme, and you need to have them on 24/7 365 Just not practical or profitable Comment from : Brendon |
If the government is taxing us we could also take a deduction for using the machines as a heat of the office space It works both ways Comment from : Craig Warner |
Would love to find a step-by-step guide on how to set up a miner and switch it to different pools Comment from : Colton R Dean |
1st You will need a 220vac outlet, 2 if you run a dual power source miner like S19 Stick with Bitmain Antminers they proved there dependibility with the S9 Fast internet connection and a place away from your ears I used Slush pool and ran 8 S9's two years ago till my power bill got too high but I did mine some BTC It's slow Comment from : David Raborn |
I was mining more than a decade ago and I think there was a time when it would have been better to just use the cash to buy bitcoin rather than spending it on electricity and I think that still holds true, unless you have cheap or renewable energy Comment from : Kory Postma |
This little conflict between ETH and BTC needs to stop It doesn't make much sense We are all on the same team Obviously Comment from : Peter Petrov |
Obviously you never mined any cryptolol !! Bitcoin miner S19 Pro , which does only 110Th on 3250W Costs $5,940 plus shipping from China $450 Running it 24/7 it will mine only 00116 BTC per month ! minus your power bill and internet bill, you ending up - $102, yes negative $102 per month !!! So only absolute idiot would be buying such crap And btw, heating can be done by much efficient and cheaper way ! You are blind idiot promoting mining now when all PoW has been killed basicallyOnly large government owned BTC mining farms are ON, because they have free energy and free equipments !! They successfully killed residential mining Comment from : MB031 |
I think that running one miner per household is an excellent idea, not just insurance for yourself but for other bitcoiners as well definitely consider it, especially if I have another home with a garage or basement, absolutely Thank you, Matthew and I look forward to more about this miner idea, it will be great to see if you can put together one and share the experience, of acquiring it and setting it up Comment from : Bitcoin & Lightning |
Hi Matt, The election is coming up and I have no idea where to find out my candidates position on Bitcoin How do I find out who to vote for on this issue? Comment from : C Ed |
I've thought about this for a couple of years Comment from : Lord Binky |
Thanks for the informative channel Matt brI’m a hobbyist miner brUsed ASIC miners are available and cheaper than ever before 3 months ago I purchased a Bitmain S9 on eBay for $10000 It was extremely easy (plug n play) to install and get hashing It is noisy and loses $200 a day after paying electricity I’m using it to heat my home and to benefit the bitcoin ecosystem Would like to implement more practical applications for the heat produced (Hot water heater, greenhouse, hot tub) brThanks for the ideas Comment from : Howard Young |
I am up for it, I have to say As a way to get our heads round the task - a typical basic ASIC machine will be 2Kwatt/3Kwatt power consumption 2 Kwatt is the power that an electric kettle draws Obviously, if you just plugged in this at home and started to belt away, you could be bankrupt in days with the electricity bill If you can put it in the basement to offset the heating system in your house, that might be feasible Also, if you connect it off-grid, to solar/wind generator and deep-cycle batteries, this could be better Now you switch on the ASIC only when you have power in the battery to operate for a few hours This might be just3/4 times a week That way, it contributes to the BTC network and the hash rate but generates no electricity bill Comment from : Steve McCormack |
Hey there! I’m actually ahead of you in one area My bitcoin miner is on the way I will need to take it step-by-step hooking up I would love a review of the different pools to join and which one do you think is best Comment from : Christopher Writes Prosperity Poems |
What is it that makes a bitcoin miner loud? Is it the fan? Comment from : beachvolleyballcoach |
I'm so glad you made this video because this was my exact thoughts when I heard this news We need more decentralization and not large companies running a large portion of the hash rate Comment from : cole bynumn |
little black boxes in every house Comment from : A K |
Hi Matt, thanks for the great content! If you ever do implement an ASIC miner in your home I’m sure we’d all love to see a different kind of video from you showing off a bit of your implementation Comment from : Steven Martins |
mETH-head land? What's that? Comment from : Christopher Schneider |
Someone needs to invent Bitcoin gift cards Cards preloaded with a certain amount of Bitcoin That would drive adoption for sure Comment from : Trenton |
mETH Head land 😂 Comment from : Left Handed Screwdriver |
Inspiring! Let’s do it! Comment from : digimediadude |
Thank you Matthew Your suggestion to build ASIC miners into domestic heating appliances is good and I am sure developers can make a business from this but Bitcoin mining contributes noting to climate change because it's an ideological issue, not one of economics or environmental protection Comment from : Martin McAvoy |
ASICs that can run off 120V would be nice Most places outside the US just use 240V, but if you need to cool 15kW you need to move more air than 3kW Unless you live in a home for the deaf isolated in the countryside running an ASIC in your house is impractical Core Scientific were idiots, but they probably had the most efficient ASICs and $003 kWh power Unless you have solar that's paid off, you aren't competing with that at your house Period Comment from : Paul D |
Matt I am using solar to power s19, liquid cooling with a heat exchanger to heat water here in Hawaii Comment from : Pacific Delta |
NEM 3 is going to make it economically viable to run ASICS at home in California Basically solar electricity will be use it or lose it, so there will be an excess we can use for mining You should do a video on this Comment from : Spock |
I would love to do this ! Let us know the steps if you go ahead and setup your own btc miner 😊 Comment from : DrDonna Walters |
A great product would be a control board that adjusted hashrate based on your thermal needs Linked to your t-stat or hybrid water heater Comment from : Paul Lind |
I’m running small immersion setup in my garage, I work in hvac so it’s pretty nice brMany hours of thought went into it so if you go to build one I’d be happy to give suggestions because I’ve got mine dialled in Comment from : Mark Kovachis |
You can buy water heaters with integrated miners now Comment from : Rob Field |
Great stuff Many thanks I remember back in 2014, my brother was heating his flat using some GPU BTC miners that he set up in small crates bought from a hardware store That flat was toasty in the winter Comment from : Jon Kirk |
Hey Matt! I've been running 2 MS30+ in a black box from upstream for almost a year Now venting the heat onto my house and turning the heater pump fan on for circulation only We have to open the windows because it gets too hot in here! Haha Comment from : Adam Sawyer |
are any of the big mining companies brusing hot air powered turbines to generate renuable electricity Comment from : Global Nonsens |
I really want 1 Matt, but I dont know exactly which 1 to get Idk I might just continue to DCA Comment from : Gus Galvanini-Boldrini |
The key to getting around the noise is to go immersion The immersion dielectric fluid would need to be pumped through a heat exchanger and on the other side of that heat exchanger you could have a water loop used in various ways These are complex and expensive systems for something of quality I do believe some northern cities are incorporating these heat loads into their central hydronic heating districts, along with industrial CO2 heatpumps, like you mention about Vancouver There is a cool video on here of a guy heating his swimming pool with miners Heat from miners could also be used to power absorption chillers, providing comfort cooling in summer months This would be one of those 'shovel ready industries' ole BO used to spout off about Only the government would likely restrict or ban such a move because it would mean further independence of its citizenry Comment from : KR |
If you will help me learn how, I will set up a node and miner Comment from : Golden Banjo |
It's been on my to-do list forever as well Comment from : SOURCE CREATOR |
How quickly do ASICS or other mining machines become redundant from newer generations of tech? Would be good to know how often a buyer would need to consider upgrading Comment from : MIKE RENOUF |
The idea of running an ASIC at home here is laughable You're talking about quintupling my electricity bill and generating a whole load of heat, which is unwanted at least eight months of the year I have no idea how much bitcoin I might expect to get from, say, a 3kW mining rig, but it almost doesn't matter It would be such a massive expenditure and inconvenience that I wouldn't even contemplate it Comment from : frmcf |
My son has quite a large mine in Canada He was also using two miners to heat his garage, and his nosy neighbor reported him to the police thinking he had a grow op of some kind Police showed up at his home and searched his premises They were stunned with the explanation of the miners heating the garage, and wanted to learn more for their own personal benefit😂😂 NCSWIC Comment from : ROSE MAXX |
I use mine as a heater! Comment from : Ben Hammer |
Another idea is to buy the company stocks who produce the ASICs? Maybe NVIDIA? Comment from : Desmond Chin |
Bitcoin 💪 Comment from : Batman |
I was mining before ASICS were invested but they were hard to get delivered while the difficulty was profitable It was the most satisfying experience any would love to get back in to it when there's a reliable source Comment from : YENTAS BAGELS |
I think that is where the creators of cryptocurrencies are falling shortinstead of giving your VCs the bulk of the money, produce miners that you sell at cost and get them into every household I believe there enough bitcoin whales that could put their resources together and produce standard minersdoesnt have to be 100 th/s but could be 5 - 10 Get a million of those distributed around the world and you further enhance the decentralization Comment from : Omar Ghosn |
Water based asic miners (the kind that would be used to distribute heat) should be silent Comment from : Trenton |
I'd love to get into mining but it's overwhelming, I wish there was a company that would help get you set up for a reasonable cost Comment from : RC Flyer |
What do you think about using block stream services for mining? Wouldn’t it not be superior? Or should it not be trusted? Comment from : Karl Hungus |
KratterPool Comment from : John Johnson |
Been mining at home since 2019 in repurposed wood shop in basement You must port the exhaust outside unless you want your entire house to be 100 deg Comment from : Ben Wilson |
Can you do a video (if you haven't already) on the non fungability of coins depending on their history? Some coins are more valuable than others depending if they came from a hack or from some prior criminal activity? Whereas freshly mined coins are more desirable because they're "clean" Comment from : zdrux |
would love to mine at home but EXPENSIVE brI've looked into it brcannot afford it : ((( Comment from : SDsc0rch |
Today's miners are LOUD! It's no little deal Even if you can stand the noise, your neighborhood may not And not all places have cheap enough electricity I can easily see a dude buying a miner and losing his wife Buyer beware Oh, and Indian scammers, please leave me alone Comment from : MrDayinthepark |
Sir TrezorT (the pricier model) generates only 12seedsbrWould you recommend going for TrezorOne cuz it generates 24seeds? Comment from : Summer Breeze |
I heated my house last winter with the heat generated by ASICs It got below freezing outside and the the house was 80 degreeswith all the windows open It's a real thing I'm with you--I would absolutely buy an ASIC-heated water heater as well Comment from : Chad Mercer |
I'm very happy you made this video, as I have been requesting your thoughts on this for a while I work in this space and own miners myself I would love to have a direct conversation with you to share thoughts on mining Comment from : Mike H |
Basements are a good location for the sound and distributing heat throughout I know not every house has basements Comment from : Kodi Dude |
The easiest, cheapest way to deal with miner noise and to direct heat exhaust is with an igloo cooler $30, and some 4” duct brExtra styrofoam for soundproofing a cooler can be found behind any Best Buy Cut 2 4” holes into opposite ends of cooler One is intake one outflowbrOutflow out the window in summer in a room during winterdid not turn on my heat last winter Comment from : GalaxiePictures |
Michael Saylor should promote this video too on his twitter :) Comment from : xhilll |
