Do you say that but why do I work on live 277 circuits all the time with uninsulated set of kleins uninsulated set of screwdrivers while grounded and I still don't get shocked and I've been doing this s*** for 15 years now come on dude you don't need that insulated shit as an inside electrician Comment from : @Marcus-u3b4e |
My company bought me a Wiha set with hundreds of insulated tools I always keep them clean Cant let them get soaked in oil or something I wipe them down after every use Comment from : @ryanjg5136 |
Have always stripped the grips off of my linesman’s, dykes, needle nose and pump pliers Never had a problem in 25 years and have blown them up Comment from : @263sparky3 |
Crazy those comfort grips have been protecting me from electricity for six years now Comment from : @schowers |
Why would you work on live equipment Comment from : @oldskoolwayy |
Protect me everyday from electrical shock literally every day Comment from : @Adamn7210 |
How can a rubber handle w/ 10^13 or even 10^15 ohm per square cm not be insulating against a 120V line?brWhat the professional tools are good for is that they make it less likely for you to "slip" off, but it is the design of the handle, not the thickness Comment from : @thomasthuene3173 |
I had a Russian as an appreciate and the way he checked to make sure the wire was off He put his thumb on the hot and his pinky on ground Obviously he did that before many many times😮 Comment from : @reddevil630 |
Although this is true on paper, I’ve worked on live wires many times cutting and splicing up to 277 with non insulated pliers Not advising anyone to do this It’s dumb for sure But I have still never been hit with 277 Nowadays i definitely use insulated though Comment from : @erikvanegas7109 |
$1600 they'll be taken care of Comment from : @klamareyev4418 |
Thanks! Appreciate everything you do you’re a legend What tools have best insulation!? Comment from : @vkproductions342 |
Found this out the hard way Comment from : @sparkyfister |
never had them my whole career as an electrician Comment from : @wellstrung2 |
Good suggestions I’ll consider those suggestions about ad much as NEC code suggestions brbr❤️ Comment from : @aschu234 |
33 and good rubber take should do it 😅 Comment from : @TinoH-g2j |
Weird to see them not colour coated red-yellow Comment from : @shurdi3 |
Pffff, don’t tell me not to trip my 277v circuit with my kliens I’ll tell you what Comment from : @Taquit0455 |
lol Comment from : @jessehickman668 |
Maybe high voltage but I've used my Klein and Milwaukee hand tools on live 120/240v with no issue Comment from : @hustlinghard8081 |
If you don’t get shocked they work 😅 Comment from : @peterbay5497 |
That is why most countries sell insulated as standard Comment from : @UKsystems |
9/10 you won't work on something live Especially if you're an apprentice/trainee If you're a journeyman Yes get insulated Comment from : @zhumusic-ng9tr |
yeah right pal 😉 we never use our standard (“non insulated”) dikes or linesmen to cut into anything live TOTALLY unheard of 😂 pretty sure I use my linesman to cut each phase of the service mass of a 100 amp residential service we were swapping out just two days ago you can certainly cut live however You just need to be sure A) your body is not grounded to earth in anyway B) you are not cutting into a “hot” and grounded conductor at the same time if you could (check them 2 boxes) all is good in the hood you knew I would😂😂 Comment from : @bobbarker6ftdwn |
Should protect in most cases, but in most cases work with power off so you don't have accidents, when using ⚡ high voltage use protection,,electrical testers can blow up if used in high voltage over 1000 volts Comment from : @samfish6938 |
Solid Counsel! brMuch appreciated Comment from : @diligentsun1154 |
Eh it’ll stop 120 from biting back if you’d ever need to idk when that would be a good idea anyway Comment from : @carsongalbraith4406 |
Have some insulated tools I put a set of klein maroon plastic handles on a set of side cutters & needle nose kose pliers 40 years ago Know they are not voltage rated but have used them on 277 & 480 VAC, 660 VFD drive buss voltage and 5,000 volt extremely low current static eliminators for plastic wrap over candy boxes Never got shocked Years ago before insulated tooks were easy to purchase we would apply a few layers of tape to install screw on 120, 277 & 480 volt curcuit breakers wihile energized Would never think of doing that today Comment from : @JohnThomas-lq5qp |
Really, really, don't b**s*it Especially the part regarding the compromised "contact" of the insulation on the tool Any kind of wood orplastic, even rubber, can be thin as a paper, will protect you, unless you touch the metal or wire Don't take my word, test it With a tool if course Comment from : @kristijanvujovic6995 |
Yeah If i need those tools, i just lock out the power Or you can just remember what my father taught me Electrical Charge will never hurt you unless you give it a path to ground it shouldn't takelike through your body or directly to another phase Comment from : @davescruton2829 |
I use mine to short 3500vdc microwave caps🤣 Comment from : @PuddinJr1993 |
The standard klein tools will protect you from 120v, if there are no nicks in the insulationbrKlein says they won't protect you (anything 347v or higher I will not work on live) brSometimes you can't turn off circuits, like lighting in a store while changing ballasts, or when putting a breaker in a bolt on panelbrI have always used my regular klein tools and have never had a problem with the insulationbrMy experience, electrician, I have done this many times Comment from : @daniellangpohl6067 |
when are we supposed to be working on anything hot? Comment from : @jeepsaround |
Those who say to never work hot, are always the ones to make other people work hot Comment from : @wafflefountain6940 |
We just had a 21 year old kid get electrocuted it was his first day of work at the city and he was told by the head electrical that the leg was off and he had gloves on but it was 50 thousand volts they had shut the wrong one off so sad gone to soon 😢21 years old Comment from : @growermo940 |
So much "it's a gimmick, sonny" in this comment section over VDE certification Oldheads lmfao Comment from : @igamewhenimbored7696 |
They " will not" (wink) protect you from Electric shock Comment from : @Bloodsong0830 |
I work residential in njive never seen someone use insulated toolseven when working in the panelno gloves no insulated toolsmy uncle used to test 240v with his fingers Comment from : @ipsperformance |
What do you think of the Milwaukee line? Comment from : @daniellemarks3462 |
Funny I cut a lot of 277 live when replacing ballasts with a pair of ideal or cline over 30 years ago that were not especially made for live work i did put some electrical tape at the bottom near the spring for extra protection Comment from : @Kat-on3nm |
The regular tools will protect you from electric shock Why do you lie about stuff like this? Comment from : @samueljardine3402 |
Some people like to stir the pot Comment from : @SRCardow1 |
Tell that to your wife and kids It only take a second to change your life And you dont need 40 cal PPE for any residential I worked with Industrial a different story 40 cal may not be enough, unless designed correctly Comment from : @SRCardow1 |
Each wrap of good electrical tape will hold back 600v Cheap fix for nicked handles Comment from : @johnbutler1279 |
I used my regular Klein tools on everything including my 277 480 volt panels UL listed black vinyl electrical tape is rated on the low end at 60 volts per wrap or layer So if you can't use common sense and figure out what will and will not get you fried you probably shouldn't be doing electrical Comment from : @TODD-KOBELL |
To any young guys, your normal tools grips will insulate your hands Don’t touch any metal of the tool while in contact with energized equipment If you’re in a pinch, wrap you screwdriver in electrical tape and it does just fine Comment from : @liamcockrell5016 |
Yeah, but…brYou know…😂😂😂 Comment from : @marshallnmoonshine |
I wear a 40 cal suit for everything Even when going to the bathroom Comment from : @Shon-z7w |
