While I agree learning styles is a myth, I'm not so sure about the solution The problem we have in education is the industrial model Too many students & not enough teachers creates factory schools and what I call "cheap assessment" Standardized tests cannot assess a student's ability to diagnose and fix an automobile Schools are good at creating and nurturing "academics" - people that can "do school" That's about it If the kid is not an academic, they are tossed aside I would love to see a type of apprenticeship/internship model developed for high schools Go and do the job, for real, and see how it goes My idea might break the system, but maybe the system needs breaking (That's 30 years in the classroom and a master's in Ed Leadership talking) Comment from : @gregclift626 |
