I not a huge fan of concrete for a counter tops and I think maybe spending the extra few hundred for butcher block is the way I would have gone (but that is just my personal opinion) and I think the butcher block would have matched a little better with your cabinetry

For future thought if you guys are gonna do concrete countertops buy fiberglass fiber strands and mix it in with the concrete, it adds a lot of structure to small areas like the sink surround

So you got a quote for like 200 dollar a square foot granite, basically the absolute most expensive granite anyone carries, and you are comparing it to plywood countertops? They look fine, but it's an odd comparison, comparing a quote for countertops that are like 4 to 5 times the average cost of granite countertops installed to your diy solution

UPDATE: The counters are cured and we sealed them with 3 coats of Osmo Polyx Raw Matte They are looking even better now and we can't wait to see how they hold up

Another countertop savings strategy is purchasing used granite or quartz counters and cutting them to size We recently did this on a kitchen remodel and were shocked at how cheap used material was and how easy it was to cut

Why didn't you just pour your counter tops in place? Seems like you made more work for yourself and still ended up with a huge seam in the middle of the countertop!
