I started photography this year, my first camera is a mirrorless olympus around 10 years old, and I love it I just got a canon t4i DSLR thats also about 10 years old, and I have not taken it out yet, but just from shooting pictures of my son with it, I think I am going to love it, too price point is my main motivator for picking up such old cameras, but there seems to be a sentiment going around that around 10 years ago was a very good time for modern digital photography Comment from : @phis750 |

Used prices for DSLR lenses have dropped drastically, so now is the time to get that dream lens you could never afford!brIf you're still a DSLR photographer that is! Comment from : @Patbwoy |
There's nothing that brings me to 'mirrorless', and there's no reason for me longing for more than 12 MP of my Nikon D300 and – perhaps soon – D700 I only use old 1969–1983 Nikkor manual focus lenses and enjoy it The D300 shares them with some analogue Nikons (F2S, matEL, EL2, F801s) I simply like this way of taking/making photos;-)) Comment from : @philosimot |
My Nikon D40 is my favorite camera 6mp and you'd be hard press to find any difference when viewing photos on any screen devices, unless your pixel peeping and blowing up the image to 200 or more Comment from : @pokethekat1 |

Well, I have a modern mirrorless Sony alpha blah blah, yet mostly use Pentax K1000 film camera and Fuji S5 Pro CCD Not sure why 😂 honestly for some folks 6 MP is more than enough as long as you got a good enough lens and basic skills Cool videos thanks mate ❤ for pros it is a different storybrbrThis discussion is a bit like the debate between valve amplifier vs solid state Of course solid state is less noisy but some folks like the inevitable distortion in the valve output Same argument about vinyl vs CD vs FLAC digital 😅brbrOn a similar topic my pal owns a BMW M6, pretty new Yet he rides an old x type Jag he calls jimmie jag but I call it shitty jag So, nostalgia yes eh 😂 Comment from : @aspiran2010 |
All older digital cameras SUCK They all expose things badly, blow out the highs, and get the colour balance wrong Yes you can compensate manually, but the SLRs tend to be very un-user friendly and by the time you fiddle around the subject matter is gone or you could have gotten a better result from a cell phone Comment from : @Frank_42 |

I still miss my clunky D90, what a thick bhoe! Comment from : @Brukner841 |

I recently picked up a Sony Alpha 900 just for sake of trying out photography as a profession, and I always held a belief that cameras of the yesteryear had better colours, the Alpha 900 is supposedly the King of all CMOS/CCD cameras when it comes to colour, and I gotta admit, the micro-contrast out of this bad boy, ridicules good, there certain textures you can try take pictures of like red texture with dark red patterns which shows up as muddy and washed out on a modern camera, but old cameras render these perfectly and everything to do with the CFA, I may have said there something like thicker and thinner CFA, but from digging around for years now, it might actually be manufacturers cheaping out on the colour dyes used in the CFA, there certain papers on this citing strong case of it as even medium format cameras struggle to capture certain ranges of colour, lime green is particular one that modern cameras struggles with so much, Canon and Fujifilm cannot even render this particular colour well at all, it turns into a muddy brownish yellow brYet Canon 6D renders lime green quite well, not as good as Canon 5D but still impressive enough for its time, Nikon D7200 another outlier but the trend of the colours being worse and worse are actually seen with each generation of sensors brSo the dyes being cheapened out makes a lot of sense even from this aspect, why have 97 performance when you can have 80 and most people do not even notice? And you save 15 dollars off dyes, thats a lot of savings when you are selling hundreds of thousands of cameras each year Comment from : @SMGJohn |

The push for mirrorless is a scam I've been doing photography since 1966, many of those years professionally (a *real*) professional Still have my HasselbladsbrbrBut these days, I'm returning to film with a Nikon F with the huge prismbrbrDigitally, it's a Nikon D200 I have a nice Leica C-Lux, but like digital music, digital imaging is just too harsh I've used a Nikon D3200 and hated it Sticking with the F and D200 The CCD sensor is much closer to film Comment from : @misterstratocaster |

I had these into their heyday - K10D is still here, 2x 40D, D80 still alive & kicking Also had the A100, it was the direct Konica-Minolta Dynax 5D successor, after Sony bought all KoMi heritage & assets into 2006 What many ppl also don't know - the A850 & A900 24 MP FF DSLRs are true KoMi designs, but still, wasn't ready to release into 2006 Comment from : @marcp1752 |

As a pro studio photographer, mirrorless only gives me one thing, and thats LV in real time I still have to take a test shot with a strobe, no better than a DSLR Also, the lenses of mirrorless cameras are as one of my colleagues said, just small photocopiers with no character He and all of my colleagues still use DSLRs and their better older lenses It's not about sharpness, but about colour, micro-contrast and rendering thats better And you can see it in the images Comment from : @TechnikMeister2 |
I shoot Canon, but tht's irrevelant I used to live off portrait photography And as a photo teacher for MANY years I still shoot with old DSLR's A 5D MK2, a 6D MK1, a 70Dand an old EOS-M And a Lumix I LOVE the >DSLR's, the size, the feelingthe photos Comment from : @TomKirkemo-l5c |

Canon never produced a single CCD sensor DSLR camera, all of their models have used CMOS Obviously including the EOS 40D Out of the bunch you’re mentioning here the 40D is also the most competent both in terms of image quality and features such as autofocus and live view Can’t really see the point in shooting with these old cameras, except for budget reason, since they don’t give better IQ than later cameras and the 10 megapixel APS-C sensor certainly doesn’t offer any kind of sweet spot I agree that DSLR cameras still are relevant compared to mirrorless and I love my Nikon D4S and D810 But the camera manufacturers are only developing technology for mirrorless so it’s inevitable that DSLRs are going to start feeling really old in the next 10 years Comment from : @Resebild |

It doesn't even have to be CCD, some many years ago I used to see people craved for DIGIC II era Canon, they are just different, I used to owned them and I still want to get more of them since my 1Ds2 bricked Their picture aren't rendered similar to DIGIC 4 and later Canon and for that reason people get them for portraits, only Fuji S Pro lineup are better at that or at least until mid 2010s must most likely to this day For me, I think Canon from DIGIC II era pictures also look somewhat more old stylebrbrFor me, I don't feel like CCD make a different but I like pre EXPEED Nikon picture somewhat more as it not look strangely bright at the same exposure like EXPEED era Nikon, their image look more natural D2X and D200 didn't look that different Old image processor is what I believe make these old camera appealing Comment from : @sophustranquillitastv4468 |

The 1st digital camera I owned was a Kodak DX3500 purchased September 2001 Optical viewfinder, 22 MP CCD sensor, fixed 38mm FF equiv lens, but what beautiful images it made I have recently had numerous M43 and APS-C mirrorless cameras, but I am back to a Pentax K-5 II and I enjoy the concept of a lens hooked to a light proof box with a light sensitive device inside the box The owners manual even for this camera is way too many pages long, but any of the settings I need to change are just a button press away Having started my foto journey in the mid 1970's on an Olympus OM-1 and processing B&W in my own darkroon, I appreciate the K-5 II grip, 200 dpi 16x20 prints, IBIS, can mount some serious Pentax legacy glass and purchased used in like new condition with ± 1,200 shutter count for $270 Comment from : @rdmstr |

I still have my ancient Canon 10D, with its 6MP CCD sensor Took a load of decent pics with it and legacy manual lenses Followed that up with a K10D / K20D from Pentax and those are still perfectly fine cameras today
brEven the 10D is absolutely capable of filling a 10x8 print, and when you get into the habit of not shooting for crop but make every pixel in the camera count, it's easy Comment from : @TheManFrayBentos |

Canon 40 D is also not CCD senso? Comment from : @DorotejČernela |

I got a Olympus E-420 from my older sister back in the day because: phone cameras have gotten betterbrbrBut I really like what I have 10MP is a reasonable resolution The compatibility with older m42 lenses via an adapter makes a great choice for taking shots brOverall the shutter never let me down, mirror works like the first day, display is bright, decently sharp and overall still a very good amateur camera in my opinion Comment from : @mxrius1739 |
It is a sad thing that only Nikon still make a film SLR (F6) I bought a Nikon D80 DSLR for $100, but it had a 50mm F12 attached to it It was in flawless condition Now that was the best buy I ever made I have it on my BMD Pocket 4K with a focal reducer The Camera is a gem to use Comment from : @cinemaipswich4636 |

I seem to have fallen down a rabbit hole of 15 year old dSLRs and kit lenses from the same era brbrThere is something seriously wonderful about rocking combos that said "more money than sense", and "I have no idea what any of these buttons do" in 2007 Comment from : @robjimfleming4567 |
Do the A100 and A300 have the same output?? Cause I'm thinking of what am I gonna get between the two Thanks! Comment from : @KioPadilla |

As long as I only can afford around a Eos 400d with a kit lens and new lenses are still too expensive for me, DSLRs aren't dead to me They just take beautiful pictures 👍🏻😄 Comment from : @Adrianwe44 |
I acquired a Pentax K100D Super, brand new in the box, just a week ago It's a 6mp CCD from 2007'ish With the stock kit lens, I was glued to the outdoor pictures I took The K100D takes terrible low light pictures due to noise but good lighting? Wow It has become my WYSIWYG Camera: What You See Is What You Get I haven't bothered to edit photos in post brbrThe other two cameras I use are a Canon T6 and a Canon 77D These two take great pictures in similar situations But the CCD leaves me impressed I even bought an older compact camera w/ a CCD just to play around with it Simply fun straight out of the box Comment from : @PublicWifi |
Today i still use my Canon 400D from like 2006 Planning on buying a mirrorless in the future but for now im pretty happy with it Comment from : @TheRealWinux |
