If i am grocery shopping and i buy a jar or bottle of something, i will always grab the one in glass any day Was REALLY annoyed when Aldi switched to using plastic for their spaghetti jars guess enough people complained because few months later the glass ones were back :)

i remember 20 years ago how there was an issue of people putting in rocks in the bottles and because of that they had to check EVERYTHING it was insane and so stupid of people to just do that because most of the cost of said recycling WAS to check for rocks and other objects

I thought it's also getting washed before it's remelted Now I'm disappointed and a bit disgusted even though I know that the high enough temperatures to melt glass also kill off anything nasty and burn away residue 😅

Thats a lot of extra costs and environmental empact for a product that has quartz sand as its main raw material Seems like it would be cheaper and better for the environment to just produce new glass

I work at a glass plant that uses to be the largest in the world but is now the 2nd largest, Gallo glass, and yes this is pretty much perfectly accurate And when defective bottles are produced they are immediately returned to cullet

I would say that the better and more efficient way to recycle is for every company to collectively use a universal 12oz or 16oz bottle so that when people turn in their bottles back, they can be sanitized and reused universally, rather than needing to crush them down and use excessive power to melt them again People might say that I’m being a bit silly to want something like that but you can’t deny that it would more efficient just remember that the reason why you buy soda bisnt/b because of the style of the bottle but it’s because of the drink, it’s no different than a soda can, as all soda cans are virtually the same besides the printing
