Great presentation I understand the word collateral much better when explaining the relationship between gold and the dollar I would say gold used to be collateral for the dollar Now we just have to trust the bankrupt government to pay us for our IOU’s (federal reserve notes) This should be taught to ALL third graders so they can understand and avoid getting grifted for 40 years This is why the school system is deliberately dumbing down the American population They don’t want the masses to understand this

If you watch people magnet fishing you’ll notice that the US dollars found in wallets and safes are usually dissolved but the other foreign bills are still viable because they’re not made out of paper/fabric US dollars are easier to destroy in many ways

As far as I red ancient Chinese banknotes were mostly denominated and backed in copper coins The silver was usually imported via Western merchants and dried up when China ceased trading with foreigners during the Manchu Dynasty (I think)brOne country that had a gold currency was Byzantium They had heavily debased silver or billion coins and base metal coins but the principle coins were the gold Solidi or Nomismata

Here in the UK Gold and Silver still are legal tender brI've stopped stacking Silver Bullion I was collecting Limited Silver Proofs but that stuff is bulky brI have recently started collecting pre 1920 UK ( mostly) 925 Silver CoinsbrEverything from threepence up to half crowns brUsed to be 240 pence in a pound and a pound was a sovereign There were 20 Silver Shillings in a pound so it was easy to see the ratio between Silver and Gold brLike Rome, they slowly removed all the Silver from the coinage in circulation and slipped us cheap metals I believe it's called counterfeitbrI was at the store yesterday and as an old man was leaving he noticed 5 pence on the ground He stopped down and picked it up saying " Young ones today wouldn't even bother to pick that up, that's a Shilling" brHad it been a Shilling I would have picked it up lol but it's not a Shilling, not even close, even if there are 20 of them in a pound brWe need to get back to real money
