Yes it's a clear move to re-release Avengers: Endgame for it do dethrone Avatar, but Avatar did it initially in the reported hope (in 2009) to add another $100M more to its worldwide total (even though it fell way short of that aim in its re-release) Yes it's a clear intention to make more money for the film, but I don't see a problem as several big budget films have employed this tactic in the past, ie the Star Wars original trilogy re-released into cinemas around the world in the mid 1990'sbrI don't think that an Asterix next to the final worldwide total of Endgame is appropriate unless that is retrospectively done to Avatar, Star Wars Episodes 4-6 etc

Also Avatar did not rerelease to add to the box office It was put in theaters because there was an explosion at the time of 3D screens and theaters requested for the film to be rereleased to get people back in theaters for 3D showings

It's not really a re-release because it never left theaters But to answer is it an attempt to dethrone Avatar? Of course it is That record really doesn't mean shit in the big picture because not every movie in history is playing on equal ground with inflation of ticket prices throughout the years & differing theatrical runs in theaters DisneyMarvel re-released Black Panther to several places after it was released on Blu-Ray to get it to $700 million while it had been set at $699 million toward the end of its theatrical run So apparently these box office landmarks do mean something to DisneyMarvel, so more power to them if they wanna reach them
