You can consider your self to be enlightened once you have benefited from using the psychology of happiness the ascetic Gautama gave us, in meditation and in your daily life When you have mastered the art of occasionally taking a break from “thinking” [all conscious mental activity - CMA] while staying alert and passively aware br Enlightened people get their proper reward for their successful actions They also experience high degrees of the feeling we call contentment or happiness in meditation br This is the reasoning behind Gautama’s life-changing revelation: brWe must use CMA to solve the problems life routinely presents us with However, once a problem is solved or a task is successfully completed two things happen simultaneously: br 1/ We feel a degree of happiness br 2/ The physical and intellectual efforts [CMA] to complete it are also over They have fulfilled their purpose br 3/ Therefore, this feeling of a degree of happiness is associated with a reduction in CMA], no matter how temporarily br 4/ Extrapolating that relationship, we arrive at the statement that perfect happiness will be experienced when all CMA is absent from an alert passively aware mind br The ascetic Gautama [who later became the Buddha] gave us the psychology of peace-of-mind [happiness] when he said, br“Nirvana [perfect happiness] is the extinction of dukkha [CMA]
