Great video!brbrI tie my skates the same way with a couple of small differences I use waxes laces which I feel holds the lower laces tighter, longer I found with regular laces, the looseness of the arch area would migrate to the lower ball area Also, I do not lace the top eyelet This keeps the ankle more mobile, and cuts down on lace bite on the front tendonbrbrMy feet are weird though I tried the size down method, and actually ended up (after years of pain and experimentation) a half size larger (11) than my shoe size (105) Comment from : Kevin M |

Just tie the f#$^&g skates! Comment from : J K |

playing barefoot is crazy in my opinion 😮 Comment from : ZS |
Wouldn’t the tension between the various areas just even out as one skated? Are you using waxed laces if they still make such a thing? Comment from : H H |
Thanks for highlighting inside out vs outside in Have you considered other “weird” patterns around the tongue instead of staying loose? It seems like loose will negate bottom and top tightness Perhaps you could try to alter you pattern by doing a big X or switching from inside to outside? Would make a good video, especially from someone who understands power skating so well Comment from : everydad |
my skates were so loose i could only rest on my inside edge, after a coach helped me it felt amazing! thank you for showing us what do you recommend beginners have for their laces? tight or loose? i am trying to get on my edges and stride also hockey stop Comment from : Gremlin |
Thanks, will try the tie tip tomorrow at practicegreat video Comment from : Danny Boy |
Don't the laces at the toe loosen up during a game because of all the movement and flexing of the skates? Especially since the mid-area laces are so loose? Comment from : Frank Grimes |
Great it took me two times on the ice with my feet going numb that I do your way so my feet don't go numb Thanks Comment from : Troy Barney |
I'm 31, and can skate pretty well from when I was a teenager Trying to get back into hockey again and I just bought a pair of boots today I got them the same size as the shoe size that I wear Seemed most comfortable, as when I tried a smaller pair it felt that the sides of my feet were going to cramp up Is this going to be a problem with the larger skate? I can maybe move my foot 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch forward/backward when the tongue of the boot is completely loose Feels good on the sides, too, and I like to do my laces very tight Comment from : Timmbitz |
Pls use socks 😭 Comment from : B-NIE THE KID 1 |

I'm the 35 year old chick skating around in Bauers and a hockey jersey (and hockey helmet) at learn to skate class while all the other students are in figure skates So I get the over 30 club refrences lol I had to pull out last week and got almost no practice in because the skates were literally hurting my feet, to the point I was going numd I tried this method, barefoot and looser in the mid foot, and it feels so much nicer but still secure! I can't wait until this week's lesson to try it out for real on the ice, thank you so much! Comment from : Brooke Elayna |
What is the rude version of winch? Enjoyed the video but couldn't figure out the joke! Comment from : Joe Lonsdale |
Those skates look a lot nicer than my $40 pair from play it again sports How much do those run and how important is a good skate vs a cheap skate? Comment from : M Morisette |
I just bought my first pair of ice skates and this video was very helpful I have wide feet and high arches The shop said I needed DD width but they did not have a pair in stock so my ice skates are D width I found wearing my skates barefoot and lacing them up like this video was perfect as it gave me that extra bit of width I needed and room in the arch to be comfortable Looking forward to trying my skates this weekend! Comment from : Keitsu |
Do u mind my asking what type sock u wear? Do some skate without socks? Comment from : steve witzel |
Thanks for the history lesson and tips I am probably over tightening Coffey style on my kids' boot while lacing up, thinking tighter is better for support I'll have to experiment now with socks on ;) so that he has the flexibility for a full stride My kids are learning so I don't want to give them old bad habits from the paleozoic Era of time when I played hockey Comment from : Ron Vichar |
I’m gonna try the tight-loose-snug next time I skate because I always find my arches cramping up during games Comment from : Dylan Rizzardi |
I always struggled with my skates Sometimes too stiff sometimes too loose I'll sure give your method a try Comment from : L M |

So which eyelits need tight and which need loose Comment from : Alex Oborne |
I’m just wondering why do you use a low tier skate if you are a power skating coach? Comment from : Thias Auchenberg |
im happy and relieved to see a pro tie their laces exactly like mine tight-loose-medium i actually thought that the boot bend was not good but after hearing you say that it helps im less stressed about it Comment from : Shoge Kimura |

Hi would baking my skates make it easier to tie it tight Comment from : Colin |
I probably should have watched the whole thing first lol My skates were always one size too small and stretched and punched to a perfect fit I now have true customs but same idea, anything too big and I feel like I cant feel my edges Comment from : Joseph L |
Im barefoot also! I just hate the feeling of socks in my skates, Ive even tried the thinnies type socks, just cant do it! With socks, its like I'm disconnected from the ice Comment from : Joseph L |
Great tips! Audio is kinda off though Comment from : Adrian Ebeltoft Wassvik |
I have these same skates, but I find that after 10 minutes of skating I get really bad pain on the back outside of both of my feet…is that because my skates are too narrow, I’m tying it too lose/tight, or I just need to break them in (I bought them a week ago and have skated 3 times) Comment from : Jackson Wilhelm |
How are you liking your Bauer Vapor X37's? Comment from : Jeremy Morrison |
