I quit going to that mall in late seventies/early eighties, can't remember exactly, when a young child went in the men's restroom alone and a man already in there did a number on the kid's penis with a knife After that happened, my son would always get mad at me when he was young and I made him go to the women's restroom with me Finally moved FAR away from that area They did surgery on the kid and he recovered physically They gave that mall a nick-name for a reason That's my memory of Red Bird Mall Comment from : @KWMc1952 |

Use to go to this mall in the eighties and early nineties Loved this mall because it was such a huge part of my childhood Many quarters spent in the arcade If I wasn’t at this mall or it’s movie theaters I was at Redbird Skateland My last visit to that mall in the late nineties, I got jumped and robbed in the mall’s bathroom Mall security acted like it wasn’t a big deal Needless to say I never went back after that Comment from : @ericmorrow3155 |

People have to understand that when these malls are built that access is always great It's when city planners in the name of progress kill access making it difficult to access High rents with difficult access and you get an Amazon warehouse Comment from : @bobjenkins9736 |
You need to do an update sometime, this old mall has seen a lot of changes, Upscale medical and apartments/condos just to name a few Comment from : @mekon1971 |

I remember going to this mall all the time as a kid and teen It was known as the rough mall and you had to be on the lookout when you went because the crowds could be rough at times They had a lot of unique stores and I remember at one point there was a corn dog stand that sold delicious smelling corn dogs I also remember when JC Penny, Dillard's and Sears were open and when it was Montgomery Ward before it was Burlington, and Foleys before it was Macy's I also remember that Ballys gym that was on the feeder road and the Grandys and does anyone remember when Mervyns used to be across the street next to Toys R US? This video brings sooo many memories back I no longer live in Oak Cliff and haven't for about 7 years now so this is very nostalgic for me Thanks for the video! Comment from : @NaturalBeauty214 |
A mall will NEVER survive without the stores I’m going to list Foot Locker, Champs, Upscale clothing stores like Neiman Marcus or Macy’s or Belk’s if you live in the southeast Kids Foot Locker, Bath Body And Beyond, H&M, Jazzy and Finish Line If the mall is missing any of the stores I listed it would be dead in a year point blank end of discussion Because other stores besides the ones I listed doesn’t have enough traffic or will attract people to shop there and the stores that remain the people who shop at stores other than the ones I listed doesn’t spend money on merchandise or high quality retail Comment from : @gregd4633 |

You should find out about the metal fountain that was in the brochure When I was a kid, it was located at the ground floor that went up to the second floor through that giant hole I remember the design was suppose to be a stylized “R” for “Red Bird” Sometime in the 90s it was removed and planted in a parking lot island on the NW side of the mall property (over by ShowbizI mean Chucky Cheese) Also, that awesome tile artwork in the old Sanger Harris (Foleys) store front is one of the last remaining pieces that used to adorn a bunch of malls around DFW There’s an article online about the artist of the tile mosaic Comment from : @unklejohn8575 |

I remember this mall back in the 80s and 90s This mall made such a strong impression on me as an 80s kid I still remember it used to be exciting to go to, was safe, and was always busy Those floors bring back memories though Wow!brbrI also remember when it started to get rough After a while, no one wanted to go because of the high crime and lack of diverse storesbrbrGlad to hear it's getting renovated and going back to its roots! I hope they restore it vs stripping the design and giving it the bland personality/taupe treatment That would be awesome! Comment from : @TheRealJLPTX |
What’s renovation gonna do especially when companies are going out of business I do a lot of shopping online because it’s convenient No trekking in bad weather anymore No grumpy salespersons anymore No mall security gaurds on your back all the time Apparently millions of shoppers feel the same way Comment from : @transitdude3352 |

Very good research about the mall’s history The defunct department store Titche’s is pronounced “Thai-chez” with emphasis on the first syllable Their former headquarters and flagship store is now a residential loft conversion in downtown Dallas, 1900 Elm Their original flagship is the Wilson Building at Main and Ervay Comment from : @bradreid2388 |
Spent many hours at Red Bird Mall back in the 70's & 80's Comment from : @LajitasRain |
