Im learning in an automatic, and it is £85 for 2 hours It's not cheap to learn to drive anymore But i do love doing my lessons, so im hoping i pick up the skills i need reasonably quick It's my fault Really, i should have done my lessons years ago, but put it off now, im 31, lol

I got a pupil who offered £100 for a two hour lesson I didn't tell them the price as they came from an agency I ended up not taking them as they wanted odd times like 6am and 9pm starts

I’ve been an ADI for nearly 40 years, and I’ve seen recessions a massive influx in trainees, and of course the lockdowns Lessons generally were to low for years I’d say a good experienced ADI with a good track record I’d say average price would £40-45 an hour lot can depend on location too Are a few out there who are well above 45 mark you must also take into account running costs have increased a lot and insurance gone through the roof!

I have my test today 5 days prior to my test my driving instructor told me it was £355 for a test day, ie an hour lesson before test, use of thr car for the test, driving to the test, and driving back I was gomsmacked!

Will you ever/ have you got any videos on anxiety? I have started and stopped lessons more times than I care to think and all because of the anxiety I feel when it comes to learning to drive It's something that I can't ever seem to get over, drivings for clever people, not the likes of me, if I do pass I'll end up causing a horrible accident Just can't get past those thoughts, is this normal?

I'd be interested to know how much a driving instructor actually makes on an hourly and annual basis I'm surprised the lessons don't cost more when you factor in travel time to the students place, insurance, fuel, tax, wear and tear etc

Note: CPI inflation would have been a better comparison RPI is usually a couple of higher than CPI as it includes other costs such as housing

Hi Richard, I've already passed my test (January!) but I have a video request for you Recently I had to drive a car filled with passengers and luggage It took me quite a while (and I'm still not confident) to adjust to the different weight of the car - how it affected braking, corners, hill starts in traffic, etc Up until that point I had only ever driven either by myself or with 1 passenger in the front seat Are there better ways to learn this difference to not get caught out by surprise?

3 times the minimum wage so a young teen on minimum wage works 3 hours for 1 lesson avg lessons according to DVLA are 30 to 40 hours A teen would need to work 120 hours just to reach this goal thats without the theory and practical Ask ya family to teach you and book the test the prices are a disgrace I understand instructors have cost but this is a joke for younger new drivers that cant afford insurance premiums as it is let alone passing at this cost By the time they pass and are on the road your looking at a over 5k on a cheap car

Well, I don't know of any poor driving instructors It's a job that is hardly regulated from a standards perspective, you are not answerable to anyone for poor performance, you don't have any development plans to complete and I assume that most would not declare every lesson they provide

My lessons were £35 a lesson and ovs for 2 hours was £70 a passed my test first time in February but a was doing my lesson from end of August to end of January a done a double lesson the morning a had my test just so a passed first time and a did I’ve been watching your videos and some others on youtube there very useful 😊 and when a was going to the test Center you need to pay for the instructors car as well was £35 but a didn’t no that at all a was shocked a was like what 😮 but ovs a knew that well before my test a had to pay that but just meaning everything just costs alot of money these days just glad a had my deposit saved for my car or a would of had to of bought a old run down car probably

I don’t like that you use the median weekly earnings for the UK £681 per week is a slap in the face to most of the UK workers The average person is not on £35k a year For the majority of the general public they are on minimum wage £1042 (roughly £400wk, £20k yr) for someone working 40hrs a week and over 21 For a 17yr old their minimum wage is about half that! brUnfortunately the median figure that the government uses in the statistics doesn’t include those under 21 or the figure would be a lot lower and more realistic The wages gap is a joke The top 1 make it look like the rest of us are getting a fair deal but we are getting screwed and jamming your prices up just makes the lowest earners even less likely to get a licence That’s why there are so many unlicensed, uninsured drivers on the roads pushing the prices on insurance (also overpriced and greedy) for the rest of us

As someone who started learning at the end of 2020 (basically started in 2021 as I had like 2 lessons before the 3rd Lockdown), when it came round to the summer my instructor had to cancel some of my lessons as otter pupils had their tests coming up (on guy had his pushed back 3 times due to each Lockdown) so was foxusing on them more than me, which I didnt really mind as I was able to go driving with my parents in the mean time

For those curious about the "washing machine balls" I had a similar experience in asking and immediately regretting it, so here's the explanation - turn back now if you're squeamish After a corpse is cremated the bones are all that's left, they're quite brittle at this point so they get put into a big machine with iron balls in it that spins round and crushes the bones down into dust

I certainly felt the lessons were cheaper in 2008/9 when i sarted learning to 2023 when i Started learning again and passed Even thoug I was on higher than the average salary While this also doesnt fully reflect the main customer base of being in the young adult age range (17-24) who's minimum wage is lower Probably harder to compare how that has affected young people

This is one of my biggest issues when it comes to looking for an instructor- not only are all instructors in my area charging over £40/hr, but a fair few dont do weekends (causing an even bigger backlog) and as Im an apprentice, I earn around £400 a week Throw on top of that buying my first car and paying for insurance, tax etc, and there's not much left over for the lessons themselves :((

I'm an American who likes this driving instructor content, even if many of these scenarios may not apply to my situation as someone who doesn't have my license yet Quick question though, wouldn't it be better to take the median (or middle) household incomes instead of the mean (or average)? I'm only mentioning this because the mean doesn't take income inequality into account The richest 1 of individuals are outliers is going to skew the average numbers higher compared to the median in which the poorest and the richest outliers wouldn't be taken into account
