I make specialized labels for particular medical devices and am trying to find new, better tactile versions for those who aren't sighted Your videos are perfect for getting me more familiar with Braille, it felt discouraging needing to sight-read it due to finger neuropathy, you encouraged me all the way thank you so much, fellow linguist 😊♥️ Comment from : @colorbugoriginals4457 |

I am sighted, but lost one eye; and am learning it just in case I need it I started off computer-braille only, with an Orbit Reader 20 I got a 40, and try to read auto-contracted braille, and always get stuck on the initial-letter-contractions; and run back to computer braille I spend so much time referencing that Aroga chart It didn't start to sink in until I got a slate, and start making a braille copy of it; while also going through braille display reading in UEB2 modebrbrI resisted contracted braille for as long as I can I even 3D printed out copies of the APH 8-dot slate (which needs to be printed at 90 size to work, because the slate is too big for standard stylus); and paper is just so verbose I struggle especially with paper books printed double-sided; because the dots are more subtle on paper, and the double-sidedness makes it gibberish to read visually But I am finally starting to pick up enough speed to comprehend what I am reading (ie: Genesis, Job, Gilgamesh, and Linux shell and programming languages) Comment from : @robfielding8566 |

I got through Genesis and Exodus, very slowly, in ASCII Braille And I still confuse "i" and "e", and the numbers I really really dislike contracted Braille, as for me; the whole point of it is to try to remain employable and literate when my vision goes I am a computer programmer I haven't done the measurements, but it looks like when contractions are combined with the characters that change state (like: "numbers follow"); contraction doesn't seem to be worth the ambiguity that it produces This is especially true with computer code Variable names mix numbers and casing that defeat state change markers It seems like every language in the world started off trying to make numbers use the alphabet; and it always ends up being a mistake Character-per-character ASCII eliminates ambiguous input and output parsing For example: 12 chars of ASCII should fit in 12 8-dot braille cells Otherwise, it creates all kinds of problems when interacting with computersbrbr It seems way better to just make ASCII braille work as well as possible It seems that the size of chars could be increased a little, to make the punctuation clearer, if everyone is using terminalsbrbrI haven't gotten to the point that I truly need braille, but at least I got some practice on an Orbit-20 before I suddenly have to learn it all from nothing The prices on terminals really need to come down though It's still hard to do things like editing computer code, when a 20-char term is the most that a hobbyist can buy Comment from : @rrr00bb1 |
