i have been drawing since 2017, i am great at rendering and more of anime style with details But i realized when i try draw something natural like a simple rough sketch of realistic portrait, i was failing miserably So gonna start this "hobby" as whole new skill to learn from the zero now, this video helped a lot with it, thank you so so much <3

Wow, I’ve recently started doing the ‘overlay’ method for self critique in my drawing practice and thought it was cheating 😅 I kept doing it anyway because I noticed a lot of improvement in my proportions from a reference photo Im relieved to know it’s a valid method for learning lol!

Me issue is that when I draw from reference, I tend to make the eyes and mouth smaller than they should be and when I adjust/enlarge them, I in turn have to do redo my proportion lines (brow line, nose line, etc) How can I keep from drawing the facial features small as the reference (referring to computer screen of image and drawing on ipad or even paper) instead of bigger, if that make sense

I used to draw human in standing position in 3rd quarter view a lot The proportion looks fine to me But the strange thing is, when I flip my drawing paper to the back of the page and see my drawing from the back of empty page (with light bulb assist) I will be able to see the horizonal mirror of my original drawing But it always give me an impression that the proportion of the left and right soldier of my human drawing is not proportion (one side is wider than the other) How can I fix this drawing issue?

Also, you use hatching and outline in a wrong way, please check on pencile drawings of Alfons Mucha and Adolf Menzel, as well as Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt you could learn a lot about intensity of line and how to describe form with outline in propper manner You should also do much more sketches according to nature only try to draw in one line whit out separating pen from paper In a later stage try to draw shape whit out watching on paper, that will enable you to understand the shape Try to do cross hatching in a manner to respect the form and shade in a same time, also angle of the overlappin lines is very very important, check Adolf Dürer engravings there are so many other things I cant manage to write here, take care that you dont kill the line or surface by drawing to much overlapping lines with different intensity, especially in the case of graphite pencil To understand this is really important otherwise you will always stay on this level, which is a level of a good amateur I hope this helps, best wishes

OK, I just googled your background and saw that you have no Academic background which is absolutelly visible in your drawings and skils, which is basically autodidact teaching hobby artists, well thats OK for a basic amateur level, but still you are teaching people to draw in a wrong way if they want to get really advanced because some of them could be really talented and thats kind of not fair I think you should improve your self do much more live model drawing to get real understanding of shape and anatomy, you usualy leave hands and feet unfinished bc your photo refference cant offer proper 3D perspective of object Also your line is most od the time overlapping which destroys intensity You also make many mistakes in anatomy because you stick to the refference to much constructing 3D shape out of photography makes absolutelly no sense, we use 2 points of wiev and combine it in one picture in our brain which is basically slightly 3D almost hologramic You can notice that if you watch the object with only one eye and try switching the eyes from right to the left and vice versa Basically using photo will lead you to totally wrong perception
