I have always wanted to own a Chinese gold ingot like the ones they use in old Chinese movies to pay corrupt Government officials I imagine it would be around 3 or 4 oz But a gold coin is also very nice Do you still have that gold coin?

Theres a couple of easier ways to test that integrity of the coin, you may know this by now, but if you get a really strong magnet, say from a computer hard drive it should not be magnetic Tungsten filled coins can also mimic this property, so another way to do it is to put it in a plastic bag and dangle it in the air, and tap the coin with the metal handle of say a kitchen knife, and it makes a very unique 'ting' sound, that will not be produced by hitting anything other than near solid gold or silver

I've bought from APMEX several times While almost nothing in life is 100 guaranteed, you are pretty safe buying from them If you want to save some of the hassle that you experienced, you might try looking at local coin shops They usually will give you a good price for cash and you don't have to mess with sending a check in the mail

on another boring evening in USAF training, we got bored and decided I should buy a 12 ounce troy pound of gold for sh*ts and giggles approximately $3,60000 USD later, we spent several hours wondering what the fudge I would do with this odd conversation starter after too many drinks and several disco songs later, i decided to keep buying both Kuggerands AND gold bars they are now in a bank safe deposit box collecting dust i plan to keep buying them and give them to my children yep, even MENSA folk make silly purchases! lol

Please don't take this the wrong way but I had a chuckle at times in this video I'm actually kind of surprised that someone like you who has vast knowledge of wealth has never held/owned a gold coin before Precious Metals are a good way of balancing a portfolio Regarding content, in general, just weighing the coin without all the gyrations with the calipers should be sufficient to know if it's real or not But if you really wanted to know for sure, the specific gravity test is best Also, APMEX is a pretty good broker and tests their stock Their reputation depends on it The use of checks is fairly common in this area due to credit card fees The one big exception is eBay When you buy from a dealer like APMEX there you can pay with credit card and get the same price as cash

Gold isn't a investment (no dividend) but a hedge to me 100 years ago you could buy nice suit with 1ozt and today 1ozt you can buy a nice suit with 1ozt so it hold value unlike cash You have enough wealth so adding in a bit of insurance with gold won't hurt your retirement 5 of wealth in gold and sell if it goes over that amount and buy when under, Kevin O'Leary (from Shark Tank does this) A video on what electronics you can rig up to AAA and AA might benefit others
