do 3 on one side and 3 on the other If they are equal, put 2 of the other 3 on the scale on opposite sides if thats equal, its the other coin if not, its the heavier one If the first weighing was unballanced, do basically what you would have done for them being equal, but with the 3 coins that made it heavier

Make 3 groups of 3 coins each, and weigh them If one side is heavier, take the 3 coins from the heavy side, and weigh 2 of them If one side is heavier again, than you know that's the heavy coin Otherwise it's the coin you didn't weigh If at the first attempt the scales remain equal, the coin is one of the 3 coins you didn't weigh So you weight two of those 3 and the process would be the same

you can do it with four coins eack as well put four on each side if it leans the the heavier side has the coin if it doesnt lean the coin left out is the coin you are looking for
