Hi Paul Nice presentation I am interested in what software you used to create your Blended Learning Cycle presentation? I is a nice multimedia approach to get your information across Did you use something like Adobe Presenter? Comment from : @hineswhim |

Thanks for helping me to overcome my fear of teaching science I have not graduated from college yet and I am constantly looking for tools that will be helpful for when I get into the classroom The Blended Learning Cycle is by far the best one yet You made the process look so doable, if that is a word Thanks again for the inspiration Comment from : @tracyarmstrong2695 |

I think that this is a great way to engage those students that are deemed "un-engageable"
The mixed media that is presented can also be something that assists a student with an IEP Videos can be visually engaging, there is audio to add one more mode of deliver, and the student can start and stop a video as many times as THEY need Sometimes, their breakdown in "learning" isn't really their breakdown at all, and is more-so a breakdown in how we are presenting information to them

How can I learn to do this?!? Moodle and Videopod casts, can you recommend tutorials? I have a Mac and I want to do this!

I've been teaching for 23 years, and this is completely inspirational! Thanks so much for not only sharing your videos, but for going "meta" and letting us know how you think about teaching and learning science Bravo! Comment from : @sciencemusicvideos |

Love the way you tie in the inquiry cycle to the blended learning, this video is great for teachers' learning communities Comment from : @LeighHynes |

Joe-
Those check boxes mark activity completion This is included in Moodle 20 and higher I use it to regulate movement through the class For example students cannot move onto the investigation until they have completed the question After completing the investigation the video will show up This is one of the scaffolding pieces I added this year Last year some of my students would always gravitate to the activity that sounded the most fun first Comment from : @Bozemanscience1 |
|
I had the same thought process last year However students have a hard time delaying gratification Students would gravitate to the activities that seemed fun (ie labs and challenges) first They also weren't progressing through a learning cycle This term gets overused in education but I feel like it is appropriate in this instance They need scaffolding Comment from : @Bozemanscience1 |

We meet everyday for about 50 minutes I am using Moodle to organize the framework for the class On a typical day only about 4/30 kids will be watching a video at any one time and so you could probably get by with a ratio of tech to kids much lower than 1:1 Comment from : @Bozemanscience1 |
|
Paul, What program do you use to create your modules? Some others are recommending Quia Have you every tried that program/system?
Myles

This is a great explanation of what your classroom looks like! I do have a question though: what sort of schedule does your school run on? We are on a modified block schedule, so I see my students every other day We also have a limited amount of technology available in the classroom, so having the kids watch the videos in class individually isn't really an option
Also, what program are you using to provide the framework for the kids' work? Is it Moodle or some other CMS? Comment from : @themexcellentone |

My classes for the last two years have been going up to an average of 40 students per class(some are 43) As teachers retire there is no funds to replace them so are classes are growing In the last six years are California science STARS tests scores have slowly increased from 46 of all 8th graders being proficient or advanced to this 87 this last school year

Last summer went great If I teach it again next summer I will post information on my website Comment from : @Bozemanscience1 |
|
I have created all of the modules from scratch They are based on the essential knowledge created by the College Board for the new AP Biology Curriculum Framework
I am lucky enough to have a classroom set of iPads However if this was not an option I feel like I could get by with about 10 computers for a class of 30 Hope this helps Comment from : @Bozemanscience1 |

Paul,
Thanks for this I am in the process of trying to flip my class I'm doing it as I teach the class so my preparation is hugely time consuming I hope I can keep up Because of this the transition from 'sage on the stage' to the flip style is more gradual I'm finding that my students (9th) graders are so conditioned to the old way that they don't take me seriously when I say their homework is to watch a podcast or video Any suggestions for keeping kids from falling too far behind

Great video, you put everything together with some clarity that I didn't have for this years class I've been shifting many things around with my AP biology class to make it similar to what you described here Comment from : @ShannanMuskopf |
|
Paul, Do you plan on teaching: EDCI 591-05: Teaching Technology in the Science Classroom again this summer? How did last summers class go?
Myles Comment from : @watchmrv |

Great video Paul! I want to start blended learning and flipped classroom next year using Moodle You have given me some great ideas Comment from : @professormoodle |
