For some time now, I've been working on a 1959-present US Mint Set collection What I've been seeing on eBay is that it's just about impossible to buy a set from the last few years without paying at least 50 more than their issue price Obviously, shipping must be part of the calculation brYou can try to bid around the PCGS value guide (figuring in shipping), and you're not going to 'win' more than an occasional freak item I calculate what an item is worth to me, I bid once and don't engage in bidding wars, I rarely raise my initial bid If I don't win, I accept the other guy wanted the item more than I did, and move on For anything I'm after, there will always be another one PatiencebrbrFor current issues, I buy Mint Sets from the Mint by subscription That avoids shipping cost and as you said, skips the dealer's culls

I've been looking into buying from the US Mint, and 1oz silver coins are 45-55 bucks Silver is going for 15 an oz I'm still debating but another way I'm trying to look at it is I would be supporting the treasury Any other opinions?

For certain less popular series of commemorative silver dollars, it may be better to buy in the secondary market after the year of issue Thurgood Marshall, Dolly Madison, etc The popular series you're better off getting them from the Mint before it explodes

secondary allways cars from a brand new showroom allways cost more than secondary market u get peace of mind when buying direct but the savings cant be ignored on the secondary market specially if ya find a desperate seller lol

I mostly always buy from the mint Add with the 1st strike if you look on the on the plastic in black on black there's numbers number 1 or 601 Variations of numbers if you take the film a the plastics out of the Box of the reprove reverse proof look really good at the corners you'll see the number and that's how they can find out if it's a 1st Strike or close to it I found the numbers on accident Will definitely pay More on the second market

Hi Wolv I also don't like buying new coins that are graded And if you don't buy graded material from the secondary market, the coins they sell have been looked over for high-grade specimens They send coins in for evaluation and only have the 70 level slabbed So I buy from the Mint b:-)/b
