i pretty much only target catfish nowadays im disabled i have nerve damage and limited range of motion in my left hand/wrist which i use to retrieve ven though i am right handed for that reason i put waaaay too big a reel on most of my rods and until this year i never ran braid now i am switching most of my 12 rods over to braid and every one i use circle hooks of varying sizes one of my favorite "combos" is a zebco dock demon 25' rod with a penn pursuit4 4000 with 30lb braid and a 6/0 circle hook i love the reactions i get from people when they see me land cats over 10lbs with it for giggles i have another dock demon with a penn pursuit4 6000 with 80lb braid and a 8/0 circle hook after decades of being a shakespeare guy i have been swithing over to penn this year but for comic value i just bought a DAIWA DF100A Comment from : Biker Luigi 1400 |

The tensile strength of carbon fiber is 38 times stronger than aluminum of the same thickness Are the aluminum reels just much thicker? Comment from : Adrian Parker |

I'm really enjoying the Shimano Vanford 4000 MHG on a Savage Gear sgs2 light game 9", as my weapon of choice Hunting for seatrout, salmon, mackerel, cod, pollock and everything in between Along the shorelines of Norway It's got reach, power and finesse, as well as being unaffected by the saltwater Comment from : Stian Haukø Skarstad |

I never hear anything bad about the BG, but tons of bad stuff about the fuego Comment from : NASTYSODA |
I always thought BG stood for Big Game, and that Black and Gold was like a nickname that's given I enjoy the BG and found it not to tricky to strip completely and service yourself Worth opening up when new and coating internal components with more grease than the factory applies if you are using in surf Comment from : Roy Lyle |
The threads on the BG series are very very delicate A little more torque and they will slip I had this problem on one of my BG 5000 The threads of the screw holding the back cover or boot got ripped making the reel pretty mu useless because the boot it not only for cosmetics but also keeps the a guide rod in place I had to spend lots of time and effort repairing the delicate thing Comment from : Nauman Ahmad Tariq |
I have had both, sold the Fuego didn't care for the terribly loose reel Comment from : Gleam Tarrest |

What would be the top 2 best spinning reels up to $100 that are the most durable and would last the longest if taken care of properly I would be using it for Bluegill, largemouth Bass and catfish up to 10 or 15 lb Max Comment from : stonejr74 |

Penn pursuit 4 in 2500can't go wrong Comment from : Belac gnal |

I will be fishing for Salmon on the Salmon River in Polaski NY These fish can be 20-30lbs I will be using a 10' noodle rod with 12lb florocarbon line I am considering the Daiwa Fuego 3000 for it's light weight, line capacity and drag Do think this reel is adequate for this purpose? If not, what reel would you recommend? Thanks Comment from : Richard Nunez |
Yes! The Daiwa BG is a good multi purpose reel for just about anything Comment from : eve stefan |
Ye it can It's the Shimano Nasci 4000 Comment from : THE ADVENTURE CHANNEL |
I'm using a Daiwa BG 3000 on a St Croix Mojo Inshore, and have no complaints at all it's a great reel that's been around a long time Put it on a killer rod and you will have an unbeatable combination Comment from : The Truth God & Country |
Penn Spinfisher V 3500 is my go to for it all w/ a UglyStik Pretty sturdy setup for me Comment from : Beeh R |
The line lay looks kinda suspect on these reels? Comment from : William Dougie |
Anytime I'm approached by a new angler wanting to get into saltwater fishing without using their freshwater reels I always point them to the daiwa bg2500 combo The rod isn't the best but it works especially at a 130 dollar price point for rod and reel I've caught white trout fishing 1/8 jigs with trout tricks, I've caught slot reds on a popping cork and I've even caught pretty big 20+ lb black drum on it using a carolina rig A bg2500 with 15lb braid can do just about anything you need it to do inshore It's not going to be the best but it most certainly is versatile I have a friend that has caught big red snapper and even an AJ on a bg2500 just because he wanted to show how tough the reel is Comment from : KELEVRA004 |
Team BG FTW, that fuego weight is nice But I can't stand the wobble of composite reels ill take the extra weight for the stiffness I get better feedback through the rod I feel as well on the bg I started with an 8000 series reel casting jigs so i can deal with the 3000bg or 2500 all day plus on longer rods it balances out the rod nicely Comment from : SaltEastSimon |
I use a slammer 10500 for reds blues Spanish macs and flounder from my kayak with a 12ft pole Comment from : Gio |
Teban GTS3 You should try it 😉 Comment from : Amero Haridy |

maintenance will just about beat high price point every time, except for outright material failure and i haven't seen that very often in all but the very bottom component stuff and thats still not that often the real benefit to higher price point equipment is rebuild-ability specialization of equipment can definitely be an asset in fishing but time on the water and knowledge about the species will out-fish any setup it is more of a preference once your aware of how a primary target species will act and where they they live i tend to gravitate more to the lighter side of the spectrum for setup in just about any situation cause i like the dance more the rod, reel, and line set up id recommend would always be the one you can afford without thinking about it too much the amount of success you have on low cost equipment will be too close for a lot of folks who have sank hundreds plus into to admit ive ran the whole spectrum of gear from full custom rods and reels, ultra high-end brand name offerings, and off the rack rod reel combos for less than a dinner at a sit down restaurant just go fishing and learn how to take care of the equipment Comment from : Another YouTuber |

I recently cracked the arm in the back of my Daiwa Fuego 3000 and I was devastated My wife tossed the receipt so I can’t even try to send it in and see if they would fix it since it is under warranty So it’s super glued and backed by gorilla glue tape because I just got it last Christmas and I’m in love with the Fuego She knew how devastated I was , so for Father’s Day ( my first fathers day ever ) my wife went out and picked me up the new Daiwa BG MQ 3000 and I’m in love all over again What a classy luxury reel I have yet to hook into anything massive with it but the fish I have caught have been brought in with ease I went out yesterday morning and horsed a couple trout and mangrove snapper in with it The Daiwa BG MQ just looks cool from an outside looking in view But for $200+ it is worth every penny ! We are a Daiwa family over here Once my daughter is old enough her first reel will be a Daiwa lol 😆 Comment from : Sizzy P |

Yep, Van Staal can do anything! Comment from : Brian Christy |

I just got a 16' canoe with a 35hp 2stroke outboard, and the first fish I caught was a 22" redfish on the power prawn Almost exactly in the middle of the slot for reds by me So I named the canoe "slot machine" now you guys have a rod coming out with the same name Greatnow I have to buy that rod Thanks Comment from : Sak FPV |
Great info guys Comment from : Todd Sutton |

I had the bg 2500 and i have a fuego lt 2500 My daily driver reel that does it all? My exceler lt 3000, why? Same size as a bg 2500, but with higher drag rating, more line cap that both the fuego and the bg and almost as light as the fuego And you dont really need the magseal And a big plus, is only 80 bucks Comment from : Gabriel Duarte |
You don’t really need 100$ reel for inshore fishing, I’ve caught lots of reds and snooks on 20$ reel from China and Penn Pursuit would handle pretty much anything inshore if you want to be a little more fancy Comment from : Beyond the breakers |
